Nissan Murano — prices and equipment for the 2023 model year.

Expensive Nissan Murano will stay in Russia to squeeze Lexus. The Nissan Murano 2023 crossover has received some updates, so the cost of its packages has increased.

The Japanese company has published detailed information about the changes of the car and its cost.

All the updates are so insignificant that Nissan did not even take new photos for next year’s model.

The plant «Nissan Manufacturing Rus» in St. Petersburg will continue production of medium-sized crossover Murano third generation, despite weak demand, and soon will come on the conveyor restyled version.

The car will take away buyers from its premium competitors.

Nissan’s St. Petersburg plant mastered production of the third-generation Murano in the summer of 2016.

In 2017, the first full year of sales, Russian dealers sold 2,850 copies of this model, and in 2018 — already 3,409.

It would seem that there is reason for optimism? Alas, about a third of the volume sold last year came from 2017 cars, that is, the sale of expensive (from 2,593,000 rubles for the front-drive version) crossovers sluggishly, despite the absence in Russia direct non-premium competitors with a coupe-shaped body.

But in the premium segment there are enough analogues, and, as the managing director of Nissan in Russia Andrey Akifiev told our edition, Murano successfully competes with them.

After the crisis, people income dropped significantly, including members of relatively affluent social strata: many of those who previously bought crossovers Lexus, Infiniti, Volvo, Land Rover now can not afford them and are looking for decent alternatives of non-premium brands.

Nissan Murano offers them the usual level of comfort and equipment for less money.

By the way, exactly the same niche for itself in Russia was opened by imported French crossovers.

Murano turned out to be too expensive even after localization, since it has a rich basic equipment and a powerful (249 hp) gasoline engine.

Relatively conservative in design 3.5-liter atmospheric «six» adds Murano appeal in Russia, as many premium competitors have moved to a small-cubic turbocharged engines, and their domestic motorists do not like.

At the end of November last year at the Los Angeles Auto Show debuted an updated Murano (third-generation model sold in the U.S. since 2014), but the changes to the car mainly cosmetic and configuration: the crossover has received modified front bumper, false radiator grille and lighting equipment, and the interior is still the same.

The equipment includes more airbags and active safety systems. The lack of changes in terms of technology will allow the St. Petersburg plant without significant cost to master restyling Murano — it will obviously happen before the end of this year.

Certainly with the update will slightly increase and ruble prices for the car, but they will still remain lower than those of premium competitors, because it is the main advantage of Murano.

As for the crossover of the next, fourth generation, which will appear in about two years, its launch in Russia will depend on the market: if the market will not collapse (and there are such risks), and demand for Murano will be stable, the new generation will make its home in St. Petersburg.

But the hybrid version will disappear from sales in the near future: last year it was chosen only by 5 buyers — it is clear that in Russia such a car is not needed.

Interestingly, the hybrid Murano did not go to the U.S.: on the local market, this modification was abolished back in 2017, although the model itself is generally in good demand: 83,547 copies were sold last year, 8.9% more than the year before.
