Opel Astra 2022.

At the end of last week, the first spy photos of the new generation of the popular German hatchback appeared on the Web, thanks to which it became clear that the model would change significantly in appearance.

The current fifth generation Astra (with the K index) was introduced in 2015, and after 4 years the car was updated.

And the other day, spy footage of a completely new hatchback in camouflage film was published, which has practically nothing to do with the current model.

It will be made in the new style of the company, which has previously shown the compact crossover Mokka.

At the front, there will be narrower headlights of a simple form, combined with a radiator grill (and here it will be a grille with slots, and not an imitation, as on the new Mocha).

The new model, owned by the French concern PSA and codenamed “OV51”, actually debuted for the first time in a special yellow and black camouflage after the presentation of the Opel Astra concept car.

The latter took place a little earlier. The car has largely inherited from the futuristic concept car design.

Details such as the slender head optics with LED daytime running lights in the tops of the lighting units and the grille patterned with classic horizontal slats signal the introduction of the Rosselheim-based company’s modern style, which they call “Visor”, into the new generation of the Opel Astra.

Unlike the previous model, the new Astra has a completely different silhouette: with a longer and lower body. Also, the new model is slightly wider.

All this together gives the car a sportier and more stable appearance with very balanced proportions.

It is stated that the new generation of Opel Astra will have a more technologically advanced interior with a digital dashboard and a touchscreen multimedia system, which is slightly turned towards the driver.

Thanks to the new state-of-the-art EMP2 platform, the car will be able to offer more space in both the front and rear seats.

This is one of the main advantages of developing future novelties. In addition, the car will have an extensive set of modern electronic assistants while driving.

Under the hood of the Opel Astra, completely new engines from the PureTech range will be installed. These power units can develop power in various variations from 100 to 155 hp.

In addition, plug-in hybrid units will be available with a maximum output of up to 225 hp. All versions will be front-wheel drive and mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The only exception will be the basic and the following configurations, which will also have a 6-speed «mechanics».

The proportions of the body will also change noticeably: the hood will become visually longer and more horizontal, and the windshield pillars will move slightly back.

In general, the body style is more strict compared to the current Astra. A narrow stamping along the body will appear on the side, located just below the sill line, as well as horizontal protrusions above the front and rear wheel arches.

The L-shape of the headlights is the only thing that visually unites the current and future generation of the hatchback, while the headlights will become more angular, like the Mokka crossover.

In terms of proportions, the new Astra is very similar to the future hatchback Peugeot 308, the premiere of which will take place very soon.

And this is not surprising, because they will be built on the same platform called EMP2, which is also used, for example, by the crossovers Citroen C5 Aircross, Peugeot 3008 and Opel Grandland X.

There is no confirmed information about the engine range yet, but it can be assumed that it will overlap with the aforementioned models.

The premiere of the new Opel Astra may take place during this year.

Today, Astra is not officially on sale in Russia, and the only presented passenger model (not a van or a minibus) is the Grandland X crossover, prices for which start at 2,129,000 rubles (1.6 T AT, 150 hp, front-wheel drive). By the way, last week we made renders of the updated crossover.
