Peugeot 408 2023.

Peugeot is preparing another 408: new photos have shown it.

The official presentation of the novelty by the French brand will take place in a week, on June 22.

Teasers once again confirm that the 408 will be a rechargeable hybrid.

Peugeot brand in Europe is not doing well: sales have been going down not for the first year in a row.

Thus, following the results of the «covid» 2020, 753,429 cars were bought by clients, that is 22,2% less than the year before; in 2021 dealers sold another 3,3% less cars — 728,917.

The fall continues this year: during the first third of Peugeot cars sold 205,974 units (28.1% less than in January-April of last year).

The previously announced novelties are called to increase the interest to the brand, and the cross-liftback 408 will become one of them.

We would remind you that the actual lineup of the brand already has a model with this index: recently an upgraded sedan was presented, but this model is designed only for the Chinese market.

Interestingly, the new global parket will be sold in the Celestial Empire as well, but there it will be given a boost in the form of the letter X.

At the end of the last month, Peugeot published the first teaser of the novelty: on it only the front part of the car was visible partially. According to the picture,

The Peugeot 408 will get its own radiator grille — with vertical «strokes» instead of horizontal ones like a hatchback and wagon 308.

Now the manufacturer has published new pictures of the future «408»: they show the top view of the front end, as well as the rear of the model.

The prototype in the photo is hidden with the camouflage film. In these images, you can partially see the optics of the model: it is obvious that the design of the headlights and taillights the car borrowed from related «five-doors».

In the photo you can see that the stern is decorated with a small spoiler, which is located on the luggage door of the cross-liftback.

The company does not report details about the global model of the Peugeot 408 yet.

It is supposed that it will be based on extended version of EMP2 platform (Citroen C5 X is based on it).

There is still no official information about technology of the novelty.

But there is an indication «PHEV» in names of today’s photos: it once again indirectly confirms the assumption that the model will have a plug-in hybrid version.

It is not excluded that the «408» will borrow stuffing from the Peugeot 308: it has two hybrid versions basing both on petrol 1,6-liter turbo four and eight-graded automat with inbuilt electric motor.

Total efficiency of the younger variant is 180 hp, the senior — 225 hp.

In addition, the «three hundred eighth» has a petrol «turbo» 1.2 PureTech (110 or 130 hp) and a turbodiesel 1.5 BlueHDi (130 hp).

It is likely that the Peugeot 408 will also have versions with a traditional engine.

The company noted that now the cycle of «408th» is coming to an end: during different road tests the prototypes of the model passed totally about 1.1 million kilometers.
