Porsche Macan 2023.

As it became known recently, the best-selling model of the German manufacturer Porsche, the Macan crossover, will be available in an all-electric version from 2023. And now the company is already testing the first prototypes of such variations.

According to the latest data, the model will be built on a completely new platform for electric vehicles.

Its range will be significantly longer than that of the Taycan electric sedan and will be sold in parallel with the traditional ICE Macan, which is due to debut later this year.

At the moment, company representatives have not announced what the all-electric novelty will be called. There is also no information about when the gasoline Macan will leave the market.

Porsche only said that the presence of a car on the market depends on the demand for it from buyers.
So, the new Macan will be based on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform.

This is a personal development of the VW Group. Also, this «cart» is involved in the development of future electrical products from Audi. At the same time, the new ICE model will use the existing platform.

According to the manufacturer, the crossover will receive a fast charging function, as well as batteries of various sizes.

However, in some markets the model will only be offered with one battery. Speaking of the current version of the Macan, it is worth noting that the cross is available in three versions: S, Turbo and GTS. All can be equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a turbocharged V6.

According to Porsche, the Macan EV will have significantly more range than the current Taycan. This means that it should have more than 365 km of autonomy.

It’s also worth noting that judging from the photos, there will be some visual differences between the two versions of the Macan, especially in the front. In the photo, the manufacturer tried to recreate the front part of a conventional SUV with an internal combustion engine using false panels.

However, it is immediately clear that the head optics of the test prototypes are much thinner. There are other minor local differences between the two Macan versions.

But for the most part, the models are similar both in shape and in body size. In addition, the manufacturer says the electric version will have the same engine sound as the Taycan.

More details on the new Porsche Macan will appear towards the end of the year, when the ICE version debuts.

Porsche has long thought about replacing the junior Macan crossover with an electric car, but decided to play it safe.

Although it is possible that this will only be a deeply modernized version of the current Macan of the 2014 model: in two different press releases from Porsche, the terms «evolution of the current Macan» and «successor to the current Macan» are used.

And in parallel, the development of a truly new electric Makan continues. The first tests at the company’s closed test site in Weisach have already been completed, and prototypes are being used for the first time on public roads.

Ahead is a series of tests around the world, during which the cars will travel a total of more than three million kilometers. And to leave spy photos without sensational shots, Porsche itself published photos of cars in camouflage.

The electric Macan will be the first model of the brand on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform.

The Volkswagen concern is developing it without reference to existing cars and will be used for large and expensive electric vehicles.

Among them is the future Audi A6 e-tron sedan. Specifications have yet to be announced, but the crossover’s electrical system is known to operate at 800 volts.

The premiere of the battery-powered crossover Porsche Macan is scheduled only for 2023. And after that, there will be two completely different Macans on the market — gasoline and electric.

Porsche decided to keep the petrol version of the Macan crossover, but in parallel, the company is working on an electric analogue of the model.

This was announced by the head of research and development of the German brand Michael Steiner. According to him, the new petrol Porsche Macan will be presented in two thousand twenty-first.

However, one should not expect any revelations, since the «novelty» will be a deeply modernized version of the current generation of the crossover, which has been produced since 2014.

This is indirectly confirmed by press releases previously published by the company, in which the gasoline crossover under development is called nothing more than «the evolution of the current Macan.»

As for the electric version of the model, it will be a full-fledged novelty. The Germans have already tested it at the plant test site in Weisach, and now they are gradually putting prototypes on public roads. Prototypes will have to be tested all over the world, while winding over 3 million kilometers.

Interestingly, the Germans have already published the first photos of the battery-powered Porsche Macan. In the pictures, the crossover is captured in camouflage, but there are no cardinal differences from the regular (gasoline) version of the model.

At the same time, the electric car will become the first model of the German brand built on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform.

The latter is being developed by the Volkswagen concern specifically for large and expensive electric cars (including the upcoming Audi A6 e-tron).

The technical features of the Porsche Macan EV are not advertised. It is only known that the crossover will receive a traction battery with a capacity of 100 kWh, and its electrical system will operate at 800 volts.

The Germans plan to present an electric version of the crossover in 2023, and such a model may well get its own name.
