Renault Morphoz: crossover with an extendable body and a range of up to 700 kilometers.
The concept SUV is built on the new modular platform CMF-EV, which was developed by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance.

The French company planned to officially unveil its new Morphoz concept at the Geneva Motor Show, but it was canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak in Switzerland, so the premiere had to be moved online.

As previously reported, the show car has no serial prospects: it is only intended to show what the new Renault family of «green» cars will be.

The conceptual crossover Renault Morphoz is based on the new CMF-EV platform, which Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi created for the electric models of the brands that are part of the alliance.

The main feature of this car is the body, which can change length. In this case, the transformation depends on the circumstances for the movement.

So, in the City mode («city») the length of the car is 4.4 meters, width — 2 meters, height — 1.55 meters. The wheelbase in this case is 2.73 meters. In the Travel version, the length is increased to 4.8 meters, and the distance between the axles — up to 2.93 meters. As a result, more space becomes not only in the cabin, but also in the trunk.

The first version comes with a 40 kWh battery, and its power reserve is 400 km. The second one, which is 400 mm longer, can be additionally equipped with a 50 kWh battery.

Such a Morphoz can travel up to 700 km without recharging. In the first version, the electric motor power is 136 hp, in the second — 217 hp. The car is only front-wheel drive in any mode.

The Renault Concept has replaced the headlights with the new LivingLights, which is a full-width front strip.

In the hood there are so-called «nostrils» that allow cooling the filling of the electric car. As the Morphoz gets longer, a «break» line runs under the cameras, which replace the rearview mirrors.

The name of the show car in «cruising» mode is displayed with illuminated logos in the front fenders. Also visible in profile are 22-inch wheels.

Inside the show car, you can see an unusual steering wheel with a 10.2-inch screen, which displays basic data for the driver.

The front panel has a sliding LivingScreen system with two screens. The front passenger seat can be rotated so that he will sit facing the passengers in the rear seats. In place of the central tunnel is a console, which takes up even more space. Decorating materials are made from recycled wood, plastic and fabric.

Recall that the current concept shows the direction in which the future family of «green» cars Renault will move. It will appear in 2021.

Earlier, we reported that other electrified models were supposed to arrive at the Geneva Motor Show, including the rechargeable (from the network) Megane Estate E-Tech hybrid, as well as the Twingo Z.E electric car.

Renault Morphoz: sliding body and artificial intelligence.

The main feature of the prototype is the transforming body.

• In urban mode, the Renault Morphoz is 4400 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2730 mm. In the suburban version, the car stretches up to 4800 and 2930 mm, respectively. As conceived by the developers, the transformation is activated by gestures and takes place in a few seconds on special platforms, which are also used to replace batteries.

• In road mode, the Morphoz is equipped with a 90 kWh battery instead of a 40 kWh battery. This increases the power reserve from 400 to 700 kilometers. The control program for the electric motor is also changing: it starts to produce 218 hp. instead of city 136 forces. Morphoz can also provide energy — for example, to power houses and street lighting.

• The prototype is equipped with artificial intelligence, which recognizes the owner on the approach to the car, understands spoken language and gestures, and also warns of dangers on the road. The digital key from the concept can be shared with relatives or friends by sending it to a smartphone.

• The cabin has recycled materials, swivel front seats, a 5G multimedia system and a steering wheel with a built-in 10.2-inch screen. The third level autopilot allows you to distract from driving for a short time.

The Morphoz is the forerunner of Renault’s next-generation electric vehicles. The first production model from this line will appear in 2021.
