Renault Megane RS Ultimate: The swansong of the French hot hatch.

In January, the twenty-third Renault Megane hatchback of the current (fourth) generation received its latest serial variation — the “hot” version of the RS Ultimate.

The novelty was developed by the sports division of the French brand — Renault Sport.

By the way, at the moment the latter no longer formally exists — it was renamed «Alpine Cars».

The Renaut Megane RS Ultimate 2023 was based on the modification of the Megane RS Trophy, which is the most extreme version of the existing hatchback.

A number of components of the novelty are made in black (for example, wheels, lining and door handles).

On the car body you can see matte stripes, and even black cars have them, although they are not so noticeable.

On the left door, the number “1976” flaunts, which is a kind of reference to the year the Renault Sport division was founded.

In turn, in the cabin (on the center console) there is a plate with the serial number of the car in the series and the autograph of the rider Laurent Hurgon.

But in terms of technology, the presented modification completely repeats the donor RS Trophy.

This means that it is driven by a forced 1.8-liter turbo engine with 300 hp. (420 Nm).

The engine can work either with mechanics or with a six-band robot.

However, specifically manual transmission is available exclusively outside of Europe.

From the donor, the Ultimate version also received stiffer Cup suspension, a full-steering chassis and Brembo brakes.

Plus, there are lightweight wheels with Bridgestone Potenza S007 semi-slicks and a Torsen limited-slip differential.

Modification Ultimate will be released in a symbolic edition of 1,976 copies.

Such five-doors will appear on sale in the spring of the twenty-third, but the cost of the novelty has not yet been advertised.

It will probably exceed 50,000 euros (3.6 million rubles at the current exchange rate). This is where the story of the powerful Megane RS will end — the model will not receive an heir in the near future.

However, the electric coupe-shaped SUV Alpine GT X-Over, which will debut on the market only in 2025, can become a kind of replacement for the hot hatch.
