The 2021 Skoda Scala is more than a safe family car.
Skoda Scala 2021 opens a new vector in the development of family cars. This model, estimated at a minimum of 1.57 million rubles, is already equipped with a pedestrian recognition system as standard.

More expensive versions of the Czech rival Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf boast a dual-zone air conditioning system, LED lighting, an 8-inch touchscreen monitor and other equipment.

Scala comes with 5 engines at once, one of which runs on diesel fuel. This model became a prototype for most modern Skoda passenger cars. Even the more expensive Volkswagen Golf cannot boast a digital instrument panel in one of the basic configurations.

Options and prices

The 2021 Skoda Skala retains the same new bodywork that was used to design the latest Octavia and Rapid. Even the flagship Kodiaq, judging by the published photos, borrowed several design solutions from the hatchback.

Scala is offered with six different trim levels at a relatively low price. At the same time, the technical characteristics of the Czech model directly indicate that it was created exclusively for city streets: the power of the installed motors is not enough for constant off-road driving.

The starting version of the Czech hatchback is estimated at 1.57 million rubles. This configuration contains:

• taillights and daytime running lights based on LEDs;

• people recognition system;

• lane keeping assistant;

• proprietary Swing audio system;

• external mirrors with electric heating and servo drive;

• emergency braking assistance system, which includes front radars;

• self-darkening salon mirror;

• Cruise control;

• Start / Stop system;

• head optics control system with the function of automatic switching of high beam to low beam.

In the cabin of the Czech model, a driver’s seat is installed, adjustable in height. Together with the basic version of the Skoda Scala 2021, you can get a 6.5-inch touchscreen monitor, 16-inch steel rims and a digital display of the trip computer.

Cool plus

The next complete set of the Czech model is estimated at 1.62 million rubles. This modification includes:

• manual air conditioning system;

• front fog lights;

• height-adjustable front passenger seat;

• 6 airbags (instead of four basic);

• light and rain sensors.

This configuration also includes new finishing materials. The seats are upholstered in fabric.

For the Ambition version, they ask for about 1.82 million rubles. This amount by default includes 16-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, leather-trimmed multifunction steering wheel and front seats with adjustable lumbar support. The audio system in this configuration comes with eight speakers.


Paying 1.93 million rubles, the buyer gets a Scala in the Drive version, which includes a two-zone climate control system, front seats with electric heating and full LED lighting.

This modification introduces a multimedia complex with an 8-inch touchscreen monitor and a hard drive. It also supports 4G and Wi-Fi.


For the Style version, you will have to pay about 1.99 million rubles. This money is requested for 17-inch wheels, LED lighting, engine start button, driver monitoring sensor, electric trunk drive and adaptive cruise control.

Monte carlo

The top version, estimated at 2.11 million rubles, in addition to the original decorative details, offers three-dimensional navigation, head-up display, all-round cameras and a tracking system for «dead» zones.

But this equipment is available for a surcharge. As standard, the Czech hatchback is equipped with a panoramic roof, sports front seats, leather-covered seats and adaptive headlights.

Optionally, you can also purchase a 10-inch digital instrument panel, a 12.3-inch touchscreen monitor, parking assistants and a platform for wireless charging of gadgets.

The basis of the Skoda Scala in 2021 is the Volkswagen modular platform MQB. At the same time, before introducing it into the Czech hatchback, the engineers simplified the design of the «bogie» as much as possible.

Thanks to this, the car has become more reliable and durable. In front of the hatchback there are MacPherson strut struts, in the back there is a torsion beam.

Notably, the starter versions of Scala use drum brakes. But in top-end modifications, discs are mounted on the rear wheels. The total length of the Czech novelty is 4362 mm with a wheelbase of 2649 mm. Width reaches 1793 mm, height — 1471 mm.

Together with Scala, 5 engines are offered at once. In the initial version, a liter turbocharged unit is installed, which, depending on the modification, develops up to 95 or 116 hp. power.

With the first engine, a 5-speed manual transmission is offered. With a more powerful version of the engine, you can purchase a 6-speed «mechanics» or a 7-band «robot».

The Scala is optionally equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with 156 hp. It is combined with the same gearboxes as the previous engine. Similar boxes are offered along with a 1.6-liter turbodiesel. Its maximum output is limited to 116 hp.

Handling and off-road capabilities

The 2021 Skoda Scala is a full-fledged family car with all the ensuing consequences. The hatchback is not distinguished by enviable dynamics, but at the same time it is confidently keeping the course, which is greatly facilitated by on-board electronics.

The Czech model maneuvers rather briskly, but does not go into drifts. Scala stands out for its good steering gear with excellent settings for comfortable handling.

However, as noted above, the car is designed to drive within the city. It has compact dimensions and a fairly low ground clearance of 149 mm. Also worth noting is the relatively stiff suspension, due to which driving over bumps is felt in the cabin.

Therefore, you should not go beyond the asphalt surface in Scala. In this case, the suspension will have to be repaired frequently.

Service costs

As is the case with other models of the Czech brand, Scala is relatively cheap to maintain. It should be borne in mind that this statement is relevant for European roads. In Russia, for example, all engines will require more frequent repairs due to the fact that they are complemented by a weak turbine. And this, in turn, will result in expenses amounting to several tens of thousands of rubles.

Despite the fact that the suspension has a simple design, about 10-15 thousand rubles will have to be paid for its restoration in the first 100 thousand kilometers. And in some cases, the repair of the running gear costs 30-35 thousand rubles.

Approximately the same amount must be paid for the restoration of the steering mechanism, which fails at 120-150 thousand kilometers.
Certain problems are also caused by the branded Volkswagen «robot».

It often breaks down by 100 thousand kilometers, and up to 70 thousand rubles can be requested for its repair.

Dynamic performance and fuel consumption

One of the main strengths of the Scala is that it stands out for its fuel economy. Both base turbo engines consume an average of about five liters of fuel. And the turbodiesel unit consumes about 4.2 liters.

But the starting engine provides acceleration to 100 km / h in 9.8 seconds, and the more powerful one in 8.2 seconds. Together with the turbodiesel engine, the hatchback reaches this mark in 10.1 seconds.


Scala was the first model to use this style. The car has a fairly angular body with numerous abrupt transitions. The head optics is presented in the form of a triangle, which tapers towards the radiator grille.

The latter is framed by a wide chrome trim. The front bumper, in the style of a sports car, is almost completely occupied by a large air intake.

The Scala’s embossed tailgate, like the roof, is painted in contrasting black. Large taillights go into it, tapering as they approach the center of the stern.

The interior of the Czech model is also decorated in a relatively simple style. Its front panel is visually divided into several segments due to a contrasting decorative insert.

On top of the center console in the top versions there is a massive touchscreen monitor, under which there are 2 airflow deflectors with a chrome border and a climate control unit.

The transmission tunnel is fixed at a slight angle for easy control of the gearshift lever. The steering wheel in the top versions has a beveled lower part.

Due to the compact size of the Scala, only children can comfortably sit on the second row of the Czech hatchback. For the same reason, the luggage compartment volume does not exceed 467 liters. But with the second row of seats folded down, this parameter increases to 1410 liters.

Sales start

The updated Skoda Scala is already available on the global market. However, the Czech hatchback is not officially supplied to Russia.
