Toyota Yaris Ativ 2022.

A new sedan Toyota Yaris Ativ is presented.

Toyota Yaris is not only a fashionable hatchback for Europe and Japan.

Back in 2013, there was an «alternative» Yaris — a larger and simpler model created mainly for the poor markets of Southeast Asia and Latin America.

And in different countries Toyota produces many variants of this car, including sedans.

Now the time has come to change the generation, and the firstborn of the new range became the sedan Toyota Yaris Ativ for Thailand.

In the local market, the Yaris Ativ plays the role of the most affordable Toyota. In fact, it is analog of Hyundai Solaris or Kia Rio.

But if the previous model five years ago had plain design, the new sedan looks much more solid and «expensive». Sort of reduced Corolla, if not to tell Camry.

There are additional windows in the rear roof pillars for an empty status, and also the angles of opening of the doors are increased.

But the overall dimensions almost haven’t changed. The new Yaris Ativ has added only 5-10 mm in all directions: length — 4425 mm, width — 1740 mm, height — 1480 mm.

But the wheelbase has grown by 70 mm (up to 2620 mm), which should have a positive impact on the passenger space.

The basis now is a modular platform DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture), that is a kind of TNGA architecture, designed for the most simple and inexpensive cars.

The interior also became more solid, and Toyota stated that the finishing materials are now of higher quality.

Rich trims have soft pads on the front panel, center console and armrests, as well as 64-color contour lighting.

The Yaris Ativ has a seven-inch instrument display with a digital speedometer and a set of control lights next to it.

The media system is a nine-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto interfaces.

Among the options are «leather» interior, all-around cameras, keyless entry system, as well as Toyota Safety Sense complex, which includes adaptive cruise control, automatic braking systems, lane-keeping and high beam switching.

As before, the Toyota Yaris Ativ fits within the framework of the Eco Car program, which has been in place in Thailand since 2007.

In order to be considered eco-friendly, cars sold here must have a gasoline engine with a capacity of no more than 1,300 cubic centimeters (the ceiling for diesels is 1,500 cubic meters), have an average fuel consumption of no more than 4.3 l/100 km, comply with Euro-5 environmental standards and European safety standards R94 and R95.

In return, the government provides manufacturers and buyers with serious tax incentives.

Therefore, the Yaris Ativ already «in the base» has six airbags and ESP, and under the hood of it is 1.2 liter four-cylinder atmospheric engine (94 hp, 110 Nm).

The only transmission offered is a variator. More powerful engines will appear later on other versions of the new Yaris.

Most likely, they will have a modified design, and in some markets the cars will be offered under the old name Toyota Vios.

For now, the sedan Toyota Yaris Ativ enters the Thai market at a price of 539 thousand baht, that is 15200 dollars at the current exchange rate.
