Volvo XC40 2022.

Volvo has quietly updated the XC40 crossover in the spirit of its coupe-like C40 cousin.

Photos of the restyled Volvo XC40 have surfaced on the Swedish brand’s European consumer websites.

The compact crossover Volvo XC40 has been produced since 2017 — now is the right time for a planned restyling, but it was so modest that Volvo did not even consider it necessary to issue a press release about it, and just without too much fuss launched the updated parkette for sale.

According to the company, in 2021, the XC40 was the second most popular Volvo model in the world after the medium-sized XC60 — 215,635 and 201,037 units were sold respectively.

Compared to 2020, demand for the Volvo XC40 increased by 8.4%, and Volvo sold a total of 698,693 passenger cars in 2021 (+5.6%).

In Russia last year the Volvo XC40 sold 1,836 units (+62.1%). (+62,1%).

The updates have brought Volvo XC40 front end in style of Volvo C40 Rechage electric crossover which debuted last year, namely tapered headlights and redesigned bumper with side sections stylized as Thor’s hammer (or simply the letter «T»).

The stern has been changed slightly LED headlights, and exhaust pipes of gasoline versions are hidden under the bumper’s skirt — Volvo is ashamed of them now.

In the cabin we did not find significant visual changes, but there is a fresh version of the multimedia system from Google and new trim materials.

In the key European market for Volvo, crossover XC40 is still offered with gasoline, plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrains. Diesel engines are no longer available on this model.

Gasoline lineup consists of the base front-wheel drive version T2 with a 1.5-liter turbo (129 hp) and eight-speed hydromechanical automatic.

These are followed by soft-hybrid with 48-volt starter-generator, bolted to 2.0-liter turbo engine: B3 (163 hp), B4 (197 hp) and B5 (250 hp).

The B3 and B4 versions are combined with a 7-speed automatic «DCT» (with two clutches), and the B5 version is equipped with an 8-speed «hydromechanics».

All-wheel drive is available for the B4 version and is the default on the B5 version.

Plug-in hybrid versions have two versions, T4 and T5, both are based on 1.5-liter gasoline tubo-motor with 129 and 180 hp, respectively, which is assisted by 82 hp electric motor.

Transmission is 7-speed automatic «DCT», drive only front. Cruising range on electric power from the lithium-ion battery located in the central tunnel — up to 45 km.
