Volvo XC90 2020: Stylish and reliable European crossover.
More recently, Swedish carmakers have updated their flagship crossover. It is assumed that the main goal of this modernization is to keep the 2020 Volvo XC90 model in the cage of modern, reliable and comfortable executive class SUVs and to maintain its former competitiveness.

The improved performance and futuristic appearance will surely allow the brand not only to retain its old fans, but also to attract new ones, primarily from among young drivers.

Exterior

The refined and at the same time futuristic appearance of the car is one of its strongest competitive advantages. The abundance of decorative elements, aggressive optics, many air intakes and embossed transitions — this is what sets the Volvo XC90 2020 apart from the stream and develops the aesthetic pleasure of owning a car.

The influences of restyling are especially noticeable on the muzzle, which has remained long, wide and low, but has acquired notes of «muscularity». The hood lid has a slight slope to the road and two longitudinal stripes, as if leading the eye to the long, narrow optics, filled with high-quality xenon or LED «stuffing».

The rectangular grille with rounded corners and chrome surround has changed slightly. It seems to «gnaw» most of its area into a chic body kit with an abundance of air intake systems, beautiful fog lights and large aerodynamic elements. At the very bottom there is an almost invisible protective plastic layer.

The profile of the new model has changed slightly less. The austere window line with massive pillars and narrow, black edging is the visual beginning of a smoothly rolling relief, resting at the bottom against an interesting, large skirt and noticeable, strongly protruding, as if «double» wheel arches with updated bold discs inside.

In addition, the mirrors and door handles have been slightly redesigned, and on the electric versions, a small round battery charging hatch can be seen at the rear of the left front fender.

The rear of the new body has been refreshed, but it remains in the spirit of Volvo tradition. It begins with a wide, but flat, visor devoid of any ornaments. Then comes the slightly tilted mid-size tailgate glass framed by stylish, slim side lights that expand significantly just below the window.

A little lower in the photo, you can see a variety of stepped and smooth relief, turning into a modest bumper with a metal insert, where two oval pipes for the end of the exhaust system are placed.

Interior

The interior of such an expensive and promising car simply cannot be executed simply. Therefore, the new Volvo XC90 2020 model year received excellent finishing materials — durable woolen fabric, natural leather, several types of plastic and metal inserts. The comfort of the driver and passengers will be facilitated by an excellent multimedia system and a bunch of assistants, as well as entertainment functions.

Front part of the cabin

The center console, as in the previous generation, turned out to be very massive, «multi-layered», although there are not so many elements on it. Right in the center, surrounded by large air ducts, is the large multimedia touchscreen display. Under it begins the climate control control unit, consisting of a small washer and several buttons.

Immediately underneath all this begins a wide and high, exquisitely finished tunnel. There was a place on it for an elegant, miniature gear selector, engine start button, several buttons for adjusting the suspension operation, a huge armrest with a spacious glove compartment, as well as cup holders.

The steering wheel turned out to be small, but very comfortable — with a wide rim, chic leather upholstery and an abundance of buttons necessary for control. The instrument panel located immediately behind it is distinguished by good information content: in addition to the large tachometer and speedometer, you can find a convenient multifunctional on-board computer here.

Seats and luggage compartment

Depending on the configuration, the car will be equipped with five, six or seven seats. Each seat will be upholstered in luxury fabric or expensive leather, contain soft padding and have excellent lateral support.

In fact, these are «captain’s» chairs, each of which can be adjusted in several planes using electrical adjustments, use heating, and in some versions of the car — and ventilation. In addition, passengers in the back rows will be able to use an autonomous climate control system and their own small table.

With a seven-seater version in the luggage compartment, it will be possible to place things with a volume of almost 350 liters — not so much, but if you fold all the seats, the volume increases to an impressive 1900 liters — already quite a decent indicator!

Specifications

A wide range of powertrains have been prepared for the 2020 Volvo XC90, among which there are gasoline, diesel and even hybrid engines.

There will be only one diesel, but what a! A two-liter turbine-equipped unit will be able to show as much as 235 forces. Its two-liter petrol counterparts also boast the presence of a turbine and will show tax-friendly 249 «horses» or 320 forces providing better dynamics.

The hybrid 320-horsepower engine has become a real masterpiece, to which an 87-horsepower electric motor is assigned to assistants.

All cars will receive all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. As the test drive showed, with excellent dynamic qualities, such a set of characteristics also provides very low fuel consumption.

Options and prices

Three complete sets of Volvo XC90 will reach Russia, and the initial price will be about 4.3 million rubles. For the most «charged» version, the manufacturer asked for almost 8.7 million of our currency.

Sales start in Russia

The release date in Russia of the updated Volvo flagship will take place in September — October 2019, while motorists in Europe will be able to experience all the advantages of the car next summer.

In terms of price and quality ratio, the closest to the Volvo XC90 are the Audi Q7, Mercedes GLE, Toyota Land Cruiser and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
