Volvo P1800 Cyan GT 2024 : a comfortable version of one of the best restomods in the world.

The Swedish racing team Cyan Racing continues to produce one-piece restomods based on the classic Volvo P1800 coupe; today a GT version is presented, aimed more at public roads than the race track.

The Cyan Racing touring car racing team was originally called Flash Engineering, founded in 1996 by Swedish racer Jan «Flash» Nilsson.

In 2004, Nilsson sold the successful team to its current owner Christian Dahl, who renamed it Polestar Racing and headed for a business rapprochement with Volvo Cars.

Since 2009, Polestar Racing began to serve as Volvo’s court tuning studio.

In 2015, Volvo bought the Polestar Performance tuning division and the Polestar brand itself from Dahl. In 2017, the Polestar brand split from Volvo and became a separate electric vehicle company within the Chinese holding company Geely.

Meanwhile, the independent racing team of Christian Dahl is still alive and well, it is an official partner of Geely and prepares Lynk & Co. models for touring car racing.

Luck does not abandon the team; last year Cyan Racing Lynk & Co brilliantly won the TCR World Tour championship.

Small-scale production of restomods is a relatively new line of business for Cyan Racing.

The Volvo P1800 Cyan restomod was first presented in 2020; with its aesthetic and technical elegance, it captivated the automotive media and wealthy connoisseurs of exclusive sports cars around the world.

In 2022, the Volvo P1800 Cyan entered the American market. The original Volvo P1800 is considered one of the most beautiful cars of the early 1960s; it is well known to American car enthusiasts, so there were plenty of people here who wanted to buy a cool restomod based on it.

It was at the suggestion of one of the American clients that Cyan Racing made a more comfortable, touring GT version of its restomod.

Initially, Cyan Racing conceived its restomod as an extremely ascetic track-tool, which, however, can be used on public roads.

The American client asked to shift the balance in favor of regular roads, which was done.

The Öhlins racing suspension on double wishbones “all round” has received more comfortable settings, and the body’s sound insulation has been improved.

Inside, racing buckets have given way to traditional seats with combined upholstery, and all previously bare surfaces have received a cozy textile covering.

For ease of entry/exit, the design of the built-in titanium tubular safety cage has been changed, and it also received soft upholstery.

Other key features of the restomod remained in their original form, so even in the touring version it weighs less than 1000 kg.

Let us remind you that from the original Volvo P1800 coupe, only the body frame, the hood opening mechanism, the parking brake and the windshield wipers remain in the restomod.

Everything else is new, including custom glazing and moldings, carbon-fiber exterior panels and high-strength steel internal structural support.

The restomod’s cabin, compared to the cabin of the donor car, is slightly shifted back, which is why the hood has become longer and the proportions have become nobler.

The racing 2.0-liter gasoline turbo engine located under the hood produces from 350 to 420 hp. depending on settings.

The gearbox is a 5-speed Holinger manual, all power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a limited-slip differential.

The powerful AP Racing brakes still don’t have ABS and the steering doesn’t have power steering, so even in touring spec, the Volvo P1800 Cyan requires a high level of skill and fitness from the driver.

The price of the Volvo P1800 Cyan GT has not been announced, but for reference, let’s say that Cyan Racing asked for a minimum of $700,000 two years ago for a standard restomod.
