The new BMW Z4 Roadster: all the details.

It would seem that the next generation BMW Z4 with factory code G29 is no longer news: the car was shown back at the end of August at the elegance competition in Pebble Beach.

However, the premiere of the model was rather specific: the Bavarians did not report the exact characteristics and details about the technique then.

Now, on the eve of the first European roadster show at the Paris Motor Show, the company has declassified the full technical data and some information about the equipment of the basic versions.

So, in comparison with the previous «socket», the new one has lost its hard convertible top, returning to the soft roof.

And it has also become noticeably larger: the length has grown to 4324 mm (plus 85 mm), the width — up to 1864 mm (+75 mm), the height — up to 1304 mm (+13 mm). True, the wheelbase has become shorter by 26 mm (2470 mm), which makes the roadster look less advantageous in profile.

But the track is noticeably increased: now it is 1609 mm in front (plus 98 mm), in the back — 1616 mm (+57 mm).

It is curious that the stories about a decrease in the mass of a larger car refute the exact figures: at least the top version of the Z4 M40i in curb weight weighs 1535 kg versus 1525 kg for the previous top modification Z4 sDrive35is.

The information about the McPherson front suspension was not confirmed either: a double-wishbone scheme is indicated in the proprietary materials.

But the data on the three power units are completely true. The two junior modifications have two-liter turbo fours.

The engine output of the basic version of the Z4 sDrive20i is 197 hp. and 320 Nm. Such a car accelerates to «hundreds» in 6.6 s — 1.2 s slower than the «average» version of the Z4 sDrive30i, whose engine produces 258 hp. and 400 Nm.

And the fastest, of course, is the flagship modification of the Z4 M40i with an in-line three-liter turbo six (340 hp, 500 Nm): 4.5 s to 100 km / h. The maximum speed is traditionally limited to 250 km / h.

All motors are only paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

«At the base» — adaptive steering, variable effort and steering angle, LED headlights, a three-position switch for driving modes (Comfort, Sport and Sport +), row control and automatic braking systems at city speeds, mixed tires on the front and rear axles, plus black roof.

The soft top can be raised or lowered in ten seconds at speeds up to 50 km / h.

It is curious that the volume of the trunk is now independent of the position of the roof and is 281 liters.

This is one and a half times more than the previous «socket» with a lowered hard top, but with the roof up, the old car provided another 29 liters for luggage space.

Starting with the mid-range version, the new two-door will have a standard leather interior, while the top-end Z4 M40i roadster has leather and suede seats.

In addition, buyers of the most powerful modification will not have to pay extra for M-brakes, adaptive suspension, electronically controlled differential lock and 19-inch wheels.

And the list of options includes adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign recognition system, a projector of instrument readings on the windshield and a parking exit assistant: the car can reverse up to 50 m, independently repeating the path to the stop.

Production of the new BMW Z4 Roadster will begin in November, with sales in Europe slated to begin in the spring.

As a rule, new BMWs reach Russia with a maximum delay of a week or two. That is, we can expect that the first cars will appear in Russia in time for next summer.
