Mazda CX-4 2020 — a toned «face» and improved multimedia system.
The coupe-like crossover Mazda CX-4, prepared especially for China, has been sold in the local market since 2016.

The age seems to be not critical, but the demand for the model began to fall back in 2018, and in 2019 the negative trend became even more pronounced (the decrease in sales was about 34%). This meant that the time had come for a planned update of the car, and it was not long in coming.

The first pictures in camouflage and some preliminary information about the technique appeared back in August, but now the novelty is practically completely declassified.

Large-scale changes, as expected, did not happen, because only the external design and, to a lesser extent, equipment were affected.

Technically, the new Mazda CX-4 2020 turned out to be as unified as possible with its predecessor. The restyled version of the crossover will go on sale in the Middle Kingdom market in November.

The price of the new model is projected to be at least 150,000 yuan (1.37 million rubles). The SUV, most likely, will not get out of China, although three years ago, such prospects loomed quite clearly.

However, in the end, the Japanese brought the Mazda CX-30 to the European market, and there is certainly no place in the lineup for another newcomer.

New body design

The exterior of the Mazda CX-4 has been redesigned in line with the new styling line found in the latest editions of the Mazda CX-5 and Mazda 2.

At the front, the radiator grille instead of horizontal slats received a fine-mesh mesh, the head optics changed their shape and graphics, the bumper acquired other sections of air intakes and narrow horizontal strokes of the navigation lights.

Another innovation is that the chrome beams extending from the frame of the false radiator now go under the headlights, and not above them, forming a kind of stands for the lighting units.

At the stern, the lights and bumper have undergone modernization. The lampshades now sport a new pattern, and at the bottom of the exhaust pipes have become larger, and a thin chrome strip has appeared between them. Plus, the lights on the sides of the rear bumper have diminished.

The restyling of 2019 slightly affected the dimensions of the Mazda CX-4. The model has added 4 mm (4637 mm) in length, 15 mm (1855 mm) in width, and 4 mm (1531 mm) in height. The wheelbase remained equal to 2700 mm, the ground clearance remained at the level of 196 mm.

Interior innovations

The developers did not consider it necessary to strongly change something in the interior, having detached the new product with a larger display of the media system (eight inches instead of seven), new bright upholstery options (red or burgundy shades) and original decorative elements. Also, the SUV received new ergonomic chairs.

There are no other improvements, and they don’t make much sense. The car still fully meets modern requirements in terms of comfort, equipment and safety.

The latter aspect is provided, in particular, by the proprietary i-Activsense complex, which gives the model the ability to brake in front of obstacles, monitor the lane, monitor the «blind» zones and detect obstacles when reversing.

In terms of technology, there was no intervention. The crossover will continue to be available with two naturally aspirated engines from the Skyactiv-G family — a 2.0-liter 158 hp. (202 Nm) and 2.5-liter with 192 hp. (252 Nm).

The first is installed only on front-wheel drive cars, the second — on all-wheel drive. The gearbox, regardless of the modification, is a 6-speed automatic, and the «mechanics» were abandoned almost immediately after the start of sales of the model.
