With an acceleration speed of 0-100 km / h in less than three seconds and Acura’s Super Controlled All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) power distribution, the Acura NSX is one of the benchmarks for performance and handling.

The 3.5-liter twin-turbo engine sits behind the driver and is paired with three electric motors to deliver 573 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque, delivered through a lightning-fast dual-clutch transmission (DCT) and SH distribution all-wheel drive system.

On tight corners, the taut and balanced chassis, combined with the SH-AWD system, provides the level of grip and handling typically found in high-end sports cars with European badges.

However, the Acura NSX is designed and manufactured in the USA. However, the NSX isn’t perfect, and some buyers may be disappointed with the craftsmanship of the $ 160,000 car’s interior.

What has changed in the new model year

Supercars such as the Acura NSX do not often undergo the same complex upgrades during their life cycle as cheaper models.

This is why the second generation Acura NSX is not much different from the version released back in 2016.

However, the hybrid rocket hasn’t remained unchanged, and updates have been made in recent years, including several appearance changes and chassis updates, including stiffer anti-roll bars and optional equipment fitted as standard.

Last year, a new body color called Indy Yellow was added to the palette, and Long Beach Blue was added to the roster in 2021.

Exterior

The new NSX’s mid-engined layout dictated its proportions to some extent, which is not a bad thing as it is Acura’s most impressive product to date.

It is aggressive, modern and looks built for speed, but lacks the brightness of Italian supercars. The body includes ten functional air intakes that improve aerodynamics and provide cooling of the power plant, for example, on the bonnet.

Standard features include Jewel Eye LED headlights, power automatic retractable door handles, staggered 19/20-inch alloy wheels, power folding side mirrors and LED taillights.

Open weave carbon fiber roof panels and carbon fiber spoiler lip are available.

dimensions

Like other similar supercars, the NSX sits low to the ground, measuring just 47.8 inches in height and just 3.8 inches in ground clearance.

Its other key dimensions include a 103.5 «wheelbase, 176.1» long and a sizable 87.3 «wide. This makes the NSX slightly wider than the Audi R8, for example.

The NSX has an unladen weight of 3,878 lbs. The traction battery will undoubtedly add to the weight of the vehicle.

Specifications

The NSX’s hybrid powertrain was truly amazing when the car was introduced back in 2016, and while high-performance hybrids and electric vehicles have become more commonplace, it’s still to be admired for what Acura has achieved here.

Thanks to the combination of a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine and three electric motors, the NSX delivers 573 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque.

The NSX’s Super-Handling AWD system and nine-speed dual-clutch transmission will accelerate the NSX to 100 km / h in 2.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 191 mph.

If these superior performance aren’t enough and you need to go faster, the Porsche 911 Turbo S will do the job, but at what cost.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the new NSX is how the complex powertrain parts work flawlessly together.

As a driver, all you know about is a steady, steady flow of power that pushes you firmly against the seat.

The nine-speed DCT is also efficient as it shifts gears quickly and allows for maneuvers that are completed in no time.

Some other sports cars with more traditional drivetrains sound more attractive and provide a more intuitive experience, but the NSX delivers fully polished performance.

Handling and driving experience

Regardless of which mode is selected, pressing the throttle produces instantaneous torque from the electric motors pushing it forward as the turbines spin.

There is nothing special about that, as the SH-AWD system handles flawlessly and the twin-turbo V6 engine doesn’t overextend.

Just an overwhelming sense of speed, punctuated by the driver being pressed firmly into the comfortable bucket seats.
