Hongqi E-HS9: the Chinese answer to the premium BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS. The president’s electric car.

The Chinese company Hongqi, part of the FAW concern, has officially unveiled the flagship E-HS9 crossover.

Ex-Rolls-Royce designer Giles Taylor was responsible for the exterior of the model, while stylistically the car largely repeats the Hongqi H9 sedan.

The latter is reminiscent of the two-story headlights, «toothy» radiator grille and sliding door handles.

The crossover also has a long hood with a traditional red comb, which is a reference to the Chinese brand name (Red Banner).

In addition, the silhouette of the model is notable for the large windows in the C-pillars and the correct strokes of the wheel arches. By the way, the latter are equipped with large 22-inch wheels.

On the front panel of Hongqi E-HS9, three displays are installed at once, plus one more monitor is used as a touch-sensitive center console.

The very same crossover interior can have two layout options. It is based on separate, electrically adjustable second-row seats and a two-seater gallery, and even then, nappa leather is used as the finish.

For a surcharge, the car can be ordered with a four-seater saloon, where luxurious armchairs with retractable footrests are installed on the second row.

These seats are ventilated and heated, and passengers are offered a central box with a monitor and two more screens located on the backs of the front seats.

In terms of its overall dimensions, the new Hongki E-HS9 is seen as a competitor to the BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS models.

It reaches 5,209 mm in length, 2,010 in width, 1,731 mm in height, and the distance between the axes is 3,110 millimeters.

Interestingly, the Hongqi E-HS9 2021 is a full-fledged electric car, and the car will be offered on the market in two all-wheel drive versions at once.

In the basic version, the same electric motors are installed on the front and rear axles, each of which develops 218 hp. and 350 Nm. Thus, the total output of the units reaches 436 forces (700 Nm).

However, the top version will be the first to enter the market, where a 333 hp electric motor is installed at the back. and 450 Nm.

The peak output of such an installation already reaches 551 forces and 800 Nm of torque. The claimed acceleration from zero to hundreds is 4.8 seconds.

Customers will also be offered a choice of three options for traction batteries with a capacity of 85, 99 or 120 kWh, which provide the electric car with a power reserve of 460, 510 and 650 km, respectively.

Among the other features of the model, it is worth noting the presence of an air suspension with adaptive shock absorbers (double wishbone in front, and multi-link at the rear), as well as seven driving electronics presets.

Plus, the car boasts adaptive cruise control with track autopilot, and the position of the driver’s hands is monitored by a special capacitive sensor built into the steering wheel rim.

In the Celestial Empire, the acceptance of orders for the Hongqi E-HS9 is already open — they ask for a car from 80 to 110 thousand dollars (from 6.2 to 8.5 million rubles at the current exchange rate).

The first «live» cars should appear in dealerships in early 2021. Whether the Chinese are planning to sell the model in other markets is unknown.
