Maserati GranTurismo Folgore 2023.
«Lightning struck: Maserati is preparing a line of Folgore electric models.
It became known that the Maserati GranTurismo II coupe of the second generation, the market launch of which was postponed to 2023, will have a full electric version.
The last one will be the firstborn of the «green» line Folgore (Italian for «lightning strike»).
The developers have also published fresh pictures of the new GranTurismo.
They show slightly camouflaged electric version of the model.
These pictures show that with the change of generation the Italian coupe will keep recognizable proportions of the body.
At that the car will be equipped with much more compact headlights and taillights, and front air intake from now on will have oval shape.
Information about the technical «stuffing» of the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore is not available yet.
It is expected that two-door will receive three electric motors with a total capacity of 1,200 hp and 800-volt battery.
This installation will allow the electric car to accelerate from a place up to a hundred in less than 3,0 seconds and maximum speed will allegedly exceed 300 km/h.
The Maserati GranTurismo in the new body will be produced at the Turin plant Fiat Mirafiori.
Now crossovers Levante are assembled at this plant.
Maserati has revealed the exterior of the new GranTurismo. The coupe will be the first to receive a fully electric version.
Maserati has published new pictures of GranTurismo coupe second generation, and they show the firstborn of electric lineup Folgore (translated from Italian as «lightning») appeared almost without camouflage.
The market debut of the sports car is planned for 2023, and all models of the Italian brand will have the «battery-powered» version by 2025. The next decade will be crucial, because Maserati will step in it already without an internal combustion engine.
It is necessary to give due to Italians — the new GranTurismo is one hundred percent recognizable, and at first sight it is possible to take the change of generation for deep restyling.
Headlights and lights are new, but proportions and silhouette are preserved almost in its original form.
The photos show an electric version, but this does not mean that the «second» GranTurismo will not have modifications with internal combustion engines.
Most likely, such cars will get a twin-turbo V6 3.0 (630 hp, 730 Nm) with a pre-chamber ignition system from a mid-engine MC20.
The electric GranTurismo, which will form the Folgore lineup, is offered with an 800-volt battery, three electric motors with a total output of about 1200 horsepower and acceleration to a «hundred» in less than three seconds.
Maximum speed of the coupe will be more than 300 kilometers per hour.
For comparison: the most powerful GranTurismo first generation was equipped with V8 4.7 engine (460 hp, 520 Nm), change «a hundred» for 4.7 seconds, in its «maximum speed» was 301 kilometers per hour.
The new Maserati GranTurismo will be produced at the Fiat Mirafiori plant in Turin, where the Levante and the new Fiat 500 are assembled.
In the same 2023 there will be an electric version of the Maserati Grecale crossover.
The battery-operated MC20, Quattroporte and Levante will follow. The Folgore range will be complete by 2025, and by 2030 Maserati plans to give up internal combustion engines altogether.
This is all part of the larger Stellantis strategy, called Dare Forward 2030 (something like «go for it» or «go bold»).
