The starting performance of Renault Austral received in the engine compartment a small 3-cylinder unit with a displacement of 1.2 liters, which squeezes out 130 “horses” paired with a Mild Hybrid Advanced 48-volt starter-generator.

The electric unit helps the car at the beginning of the movement and eliminates the lack of traction at low speeds.

For more expensive versions, a turbocharged “four” with a displacement of 1.3 liters is used.

The maximum performance is offered with a more complex hybrid unit based on a 1.2-liter turbocharged engine, paired with a 3-shaft transmission.

Inside the transmission there are two electric motors.

Electronics are used as synchronizers to help eliminate shocks when switching. The total release force of this installation is 200 «horses».

The car is based on Renault-Nissan’s CMF-CD3 modular architecture.
