Subaru Levorg Layback: the Japanese have turned the Levorg station wagon into a full-fledged crossover.

The premiere of the new compact crossover Subaru Levorg Layback took place in Japan.

In the brand’s lineup, it will occupy a niche between the Crosstrek and Outback SUVs.

The developers call this model more comfortable than the already mentioned cars.

The prefix “Layback” in the name even hints at this. At the same time, the design of the new product itself is much less all-terrain.

Compared to the Subaru Levorg station wagon, the presented crossover has a different “face”.

In particular, the Japanese installed a different bumper on the front with smoother lines in the area of the side air intakes.

In turn, the grille grille has become somewhat wider and received a new pattern.

The Levorg Layback’s all-terrain body kit around the perimeter of the body, typical of most crossovers, is quite discreet.

The wheel arches feature 18-inch alloy wheels of an original design, shod with all-season tires measuring 225/55.

Interestingly, two “sports” packages are already available for the new model on the official Subaru website — Urban Style and STI Style.

They involve replacing the mentioned linings around the perimeter of the body with components in glossy black or painted to match the body color.

Plus, they include additional DRLs and a splitter. Customers can also order a different wheel design, a different radiator grille with a Y-shaped pattern, as well as modified exhaust pipes.

The interior of the car received two-tone upholstery. Depending on the configuration, it can be either fabric or leather. Copper-colored stitching can be seen on the steering wheel and front panel.

Equipment includes a 12.3-inch virtual instrument panel and an 11.6-inch touchscreen multimedia system.

The car is also equipped with a Harman Kardon audio system, ambient lighting, a panoramic roof and a proprietary set of Eyesight X ADAS electronic assistants.

Subaru Levorg Layback 2024 reaches a length of 4,770 mm (- 15 mm compared to the regular Levorg), a width of 1,820 mm (+ 25), and a height of 1,570 mm (+ 70). The trunk volume is stated at 561 liters.

The difference in dimensions is due not only to the presence of a different body kit, but also to a noticeably raised suspension — the ground clearance was immediately increased to 200 mm (+ 55).

The crossover is powered by the familiar 1.8-liter boxer turbo engine producing 177 hp. (300 Nm), which also applies to the standard station wagon.

The engine operates in conjunction with a CVT Lineartronic clinoceptive variator. The brand’s Symmetrical AWD all-wheel drive is also available.

The cost of the Subaru Levorg Layback has not yet been announced, but the presented crossover will probably be slightly more expensive than the station wagon.

For now, the model is announced exclusively for the Japanese market, but it is possible that over time it will begin to be exported to other countries.
