It is expected that the production version of the subcompact SUV of the German brand will reach dealers in the European market in 2026.

The Volkswagen brand is actively involved in the development of the “green” family, the first child of which is the five-door ID.3.

As it became known earlier, one of the upcoming models will be the “starter” small hatchback Volkswagen ID.1, while on the European market its cost will not exceed 20 thousand euros.

A little higher in the brand hierarchy will be a hatch based on the Volkswagen ID.2 all concept. An entry-level crossover will be created on the basis of this model.

In the middle of this month, the Germans published a sketch of the Volkswagen ID.2all SUV concept: apparently, this show car will form the basis of the brand’s future entry-level crossover.

Let’s remember that the darkened image shows the profile of a small electric car with short overhangs, wheel arch trims, a voluminous front bumper, a sloping windshield and a spoiler on the top of the tailgate.

It is assumed that the production version will receive a slightly different name – Volkswagen ID.2X.

According to preliminary data, the model will subsequently become a replacement for the current VW T-Cross and Taigo.

The production version of the subcompact crossover will likely go on sale in the European market in 2026, but a concept called ID.2all SUV should debut earlier.

It is still unknown what the appearance of the production all-electric small VW SUV will be.

The designer of the Spanish edition offers his own version of the exterior of the future new product.

Judging by the render, the crossover may receive a voluminous front part, with visually simple head optics, which received straight lines of LED running lights located in the upper part.

The headlights are connected to each other by a strip, and in its center is the brand logo.

The artist painted the future new product with a wide “smile” of the central air intake at the bottom of the front bumper.

He also added to the electric car a body kit made of black glossy plastic around the perimeter of the body, including lining on the extended wheel arches.

The SUV in the rendering received unusual black-and-silver wheels, a black roof, a similar-colored spoiler on the top of the tailgate and traditional exterior mirror housings with turn signal repeaters.

The front doors were equipped with “regular” door handles, the rear side doors were equipped with handles that were “hidden” in the rear roof pillar — similar to the Volkswagen ID.2 all concept.

The designer did not forget to display the distinctive sign of the SUV version — three horizontal stripes located parallel to each other on the cavity of the wide rear pillar (this element refers to the ID.Buzz design).

The Volkswagen ID.2X will most likely be based on a simplified version of the Volkswagen modular platform – MEB Entry.

There is no official information about the technology yet; Let us remind you that the hatchback prototype was equipped with a single 226-horsepower electric motor, which is located on the front axle.

It is expected that the models will offer traction batteries with a capacity of 38 and 56 kWh.

The maximum range on a single charge is about 450 km (calculated using the WLTP cycle). According to the Spanish publication, the price tag of the new product will approach 30 thousand euros.
