Kia Telluride 2021: Kia’s largest SUV.

At the Detroit Auto Show, the premiere of the new KIA Telluride took place — the largest car in the history of the company for all time, even the Mohave frame SUV turned out to be a little smaller in size.

Recall that the appearance of this model was preceded by the concept of the same name, first shown back in two thousand and sixteen.

The appearance of the new Kia Telluride (photo and price) was drawn in the Californian design studio of the brand, and this is understandable, because the key market for this giant is the United States.

The car received a wide radiator grille, at the bottom and top framed by chrome strips, vertical headlights and «fangs» located under them near the air ducts in the front bumper.

In general, the exterior of the crossover turned out to be more angular than the soplatform Hyundai Palisade, which made the Telluride look more brutal.

The austere image is emphasized by an almost vertical massive front end, a straight roofline, as well as a chrome trim on the doors running parallel to it.

The new body of Kia Telluride 2020-2021 also stands out for its L-shaped taillights, wide protective linings made of unpainted plastic over the wheel arches and sills, the “Telluride” lettering on the edge of the bonnet and on the trunk lid, as well as the chrome edging of the entire perimeter of the glazing with a slight rise on center rack.

The interior of the crossover with three rows of seats can have either an 8-seat configuration or a 7-seat one — with two captain’s chairs in the second row.

Unfortunately, the woodgrain and polished aluminum inserts on the front are made of plastic, but the 10.25-inch multimedia touchscreen tablet (supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) on the center console is impressive for its size.

And there are also ceiling vents of the ventilation system for passengers of the second row, a special microphone for communication between the driver and passengers in the gallery, the function of turning off the rear speakers (useful in case the passengers dozed behind on a long journey), six USB connectors (two on each row ), Bluetooth support for two smartphones at the same time, etc.

Specifications

The new 2021 KIA Telluride is based on the same chassis as the Palisade, with McPherson struts in the front and multi-link rear suspension. The base here is front-wheel drive, and the all-wheel drive transmission is implemented using an electro-hydraulic clutch for connecting the rear axle.

The only engine offered for the off-road vehicle is the Atkinson-cycle 3.8-liter naturally aspirated V6 GDI with a capacity of 295 hp. and 355 Nm of torque at 5,200 rpm.

It is paired with an eight-band automatic transmission, plus there are several control electronics modes: Smart, Eco, Sport and Comfort, as well as Snow and AWD Lock.

In the first two, traction is transmitted only to the front wheels, in the third and fourth, the ratio is 80:20 (in winter it is similar) and 65:35, and the latter provides for a 50:50 distribution. In addition, the Kia Telluride is capable of pulling a trailer weighing up to 2,267 kg.

In terms of overall dimensions, the off-road vehicle turned out to be slightly longer and wider than Palisade. The length of the Kia Telluride is 5,001 mm (+ 21), the wheelbase is 2,900, the width is 1,989 (+ 14), the height of both cars is identical — 1,750.

The boot volume of the new model is 595 liters (85 liters more than on Hyundai), and when the backs of the third row are folded, the compartment increases to 1 302 liters (+ 5).

The car was equipped with a variety of safety systems, including the function of automatic movement in the stream with recognition of road signs and compliance with the speed limit, as well as keeping in the center of the occupied lane.

Plus there is a reverse parking assistant with automatic braking and a collision avoidance system with passing vehicles when changing lanes.

Options and prices

The production of Kia Telluride was set up at an enterprise in the United States, the start of sales in the American market was in mid-2019.Four configurations were offered for the crossover, while in the future the car should appear in Russia, but this will not happen until 2021.
