The development of a new version of the XC90 has been going on since 2019, and since then a lot has been known about it.
The car will retain the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, but will receive an updated version that will allow the construction of a pure electric car.
In the future, the same «cart» will form the basis of the updated models S90, V90, S60 and V60, and all of these cars are likely to be hybrid.
Everything goes to the fact that Volvo will become the first car brand that will abandon conventional internal combustion engines for the sake of, above all, the ecology of exhaust and fuel economy.

The Swedish manufacturer has long taught fans of the brand to a conservative approach in terms of updating the exteriors of their cars, so no one expects revolutionary design solutions from the new 2022 Volvo XC90 model year.
The familiar radiator grille, optics with T-shaped modules, laconic body lines, large vertical lights at the stern, moderate chrome decor — in Volvo they deservedly believe that their technology has something to brag about without «flashy» accessories or original stampings, but at the same time the company’s engineers continue to work on aerodynamics of the body, which explains the constant and usually invisible changes in the shape of body parts.

There will be no major innovations in the cabin of the third-generation crossover either. A much more interesting update will be the new autopilot, which will allow you to completely take your mind off the road.
Previously, the system only allowed not to keep your hands on the steering wheel, while the driver’s gaze had to be directed towards the road (this was followed by a special salon camera).
In the new version of the system, this condition has been removed, but Volvo specifically emphasizes that SUVs with such an autopilot will be sold only in those countries where local legislation allows the operation of cars with such systems.

According to the new “motor policy” of the company, diesel power units will definitely not be installed on the “third” Volvo XC90 in 2022, and all gasoline ones will be either “soft” or rechargeable hybrids.
The main attention of the developer will be paid to the creation of a completely electric modification, but Volvo engineers have not yet provided any preliminary data on the power of the motors and the capacity of the batteries.

The new-generation Volvo XC90 was originally set to debut in 2021, but today, insiders are reporting 2022.
Currently, the model is presented in Russia, so there is reason to believe that the long-awaited novelty will officially come to us.
