Updated Ford Explorer for the USA: fewer versions, higher quality, without the Chinese display.

Ford has introduced an updated mid-size three-row Explorer crossover for the North American market; it will appear at local dealers next summer.

Ford now has three different Explorers: Chinese, American and all-electric for Europe on the VW MEB platform.

Chinese and American are unified in terms of platform and body, but differ significantly from each other in terms of design.

The current Chinese Explorer was restyled back in 2022, and now, in its fifth year of life, the sixth-generation American Explorer has also been updated.

New things for the American Explorer come in very handy: last year, its sales in the US, compared to sales in 2022, decreased by 10.1% to 186,799 units, while the arch-rival Jeep Grand Cherokee, on the contrary, added 10% and sold 244 units. 594 pcs.

The second eternal rival of the Toyota Highlander dropped by 23.7% last year to 169,543 units, but this is partly explained by the entry of the larger Grand Highlander into the market last summer — its sales by the end of the year reached 48,036 units, in total 217,579 cars come out as Highlanders. In short, the Ford Explorer is lagging behind.

The update brought the Explorer a front end in the style of its Chinese namesake, but with a slightly more angular bumper.

The stern is also updated in the manner of the Chinese model, but the “American” has its own LED filling, without the “squiggles” beloved by the Chinese.

The standard wheels have received a completely new design; several options are available with a diameter of 18, 20 and 21 inches.

The interior of the American Explorer has been completely redesigned, but in its own American style, without the chic three-screen display on the front panel that the “Chinese” flaunts.

The American crossover now has a standard 12.3-inch customizable instrument screen and a 13.2-inch Ford Digital Experience multimedia system with integrated Google services and popular entertainment applications such as Spotify and Amazon Music.

While parked, you can even play modern video games on the multimedia system screen using a joystick connected via Bluetooth.

The Explorer no longer has a separate microclimate unit, the “weather” settings are removed from the multimedia screen, and the top floor of the two-story center console is occupied by a shelf with wireless charging for a smartphone.

Ford emphasizes that it has significantly improved the quality of finishing materials and their tactile perception: the front panel and door cards now have extensive textile inserts that make the interior more comfortable.

The standard equipment includes eight USB ports for powering gadgets, a built-in modem and a set of electronic driver assistants Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+, and the top versions also have a second-level Ford BlueCruise autopilot (allows you to drive on highways with your hands off the wheel).

The Explorer no longer has hybrid versions; only two supercharged petrol engines from the EcoBoost family remain in the range — a 2.3-liter four (304 hp, 420 Nm) and a 3.0-liter V6 (406 hp). , 563 Nm), the latter is included in the sports version of the ST, but is also available as an option in combination with the rich Platinum package.

The gearbox is only a 10-speed hydromechanical “automatic”.

The default is rear-wheel drive; you have to pay extra for all-wheel drive on all versions, including the sports ST.

An off-road version of Timberline in the range of the updated Explorer has not yet been announced, but it or something similar under a different name will appear later.

The updated Ford Explorer is already available to order from US dealers, prices have increased slightly and start at $41,220 (delivery included), which is $2,120 more than the starting price before restyling.
