Maserati said they will stop production of the Ghibli sedan in 2024: the 3.8-liter V8 engine will also disappear.

Maserati recently announced the Folgore’s electrification, but nothing was said about the Ghibli model.

This suggested that the compact sedan will soon be phased out and now we know the exact date.

This car will disappear in 2024. It was also said what is waiting for the Quattroporte.

It is officially confirmed that there will be an all-electric version.

The dimensions of the electric car will be smaller than the current model and it is strange, considering the current trends with the constant increase in size.

The new generation Quattroporte will be approximately the same size as the leaving Ghibli.

In fact, these two models will be combined into one, taking the dimensions of a sedan. At the same time the car will get a new name.

All the matter is that the model ceased to be demanded.

Now SUVs and crossovers are getting more and more popular, so the outdated entry-level sedan will become another victim of buyers switching to cars with high seating position.

By the way, it has been officially confirmed that the crossover Levante in the new generation will get a completely electric variant. Its dimensions will be less than those of Grecale.

The Italian brand told one more news. Production of the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine from Ferrari will be stopped.

It was used in Ghibli, Levante and other models. There is nothing surprising in this information, because the automaker has developed its own 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine called Nettuno.

This engine will not be used for more than 7 years, because in 2030, the brand will switch to all-electric cars.

Maserati will get rid of the Ghibli sedan and V8 engine, and the Quattroporte sedan will become smaller.

The luxury brand Maserati, part of the Stellantis Corporation, will reduce its sedan lineup as the focus of consumer interest increasingly shifts to crossovers. Production of the Ghibli will stop in 2024, it will be replaced by a new, smaller Quattroporte.

The current third generation Maserati Ghibli has been produced since 2013.

The previous two generations of the Ghibli were two-door sports car, but at the beginning of the last decade, the management of Maserati decided that the brand needs a full-fledged competitor to the BMW 5 Series and gave the name Ghibli business sedan, which is, in fact, a smaller version of the flagship executive Quattroporte — the two sedans have a common platform and engine line.

Despite its considerable age, the Ghibli sells well: last year Maserati sold 24,269 cars in the world, 59% of this volume came from the Levante crossover, 33% — the Ghibli.

Is it worth «killing» a model that accounts for a third of the brand’s demand? Certainly not!

In fact, there will be no «killing», but replacement: as the Australian magazine Drive reports with reference to the head of Maserati Australia Grant Barling, in the new brand development strategy there is no place for two sedans, so there will be only one, namely the Quattroporte, as the name Quattroporte is more popular than the Ghibli.

At the same time, the Quattroporte will be lowered in class: in the new generation, which will appear by 2025, it will be a business sedan (E), not an executive one (F).

In 2025, the market will also see a completely new generation of the flagship Levante crossover.

It is known that it and, apparently, the coplatformer new Quattroporte will have an electric power unit.

Whether these models will have «hydrocarbon» versions, at least in the form of plug-in hybrids, is still unknown.

By 2030 Maserati plans to completely get rid of internal combustion engines, so if the new hybrid Quattroporte and Levante appear, they will not live long on the conveyor belt.

Together with present generations Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante brand Maserati will say goodbye to V8 engine forever, now the top versions of these models are equipped with 3.8-liter supercharged unit F154 Ferrari production, on machines with a trident on the hood it gives out up to 598 hp.

Meanwhile, in 2020, Maserati has its own more compact 3.0-liter biturbo V6 Nettuno: the first one received it was the supercar Maserati MC20 (630 hp), the second — the medium-sized crossover Grecale (530 hp), the next in turn — the coupe GranTurismo and convertible GranCabrio of the new generation.

Obviously, if the new Quattroporte and Levante will have «hydrocarbon» versions, it will be with the same motor.

We should remind you that by 2025 all Maserati models will be offered as electric cars with prefix Folgore (translated from Italian as «lightning»), and battery GranTurismo, GranCabrio and Grecale will enter the market already in 2023.

The new GranTurismo in the official teaser photos was shown exactly in the Folgore version, but gasoline modifications will definitely be available.

As for the Ghibli, this name will go into the archives after 2024 and perhaps it will be in demand again in the future on some new battery-powered Maserati model.
