Introduced Pagani Huayra R hypercar with naturally aspirated V12. Pagani unveils its most powerful and lightest hypercar ever.

This coupe is not just another variant of the Pagani Huayra hypercar, whose production cycle is already coming to an end.

The track model Huayra R is the most extreme in the history of the brand, and most importantly, it is also a preparation for testing technical solutions that will be applied on future models of the company.

Horatio Pagani had already done this trick: the Zonda R model released in 2009 had only 10% of the components from the base Probe and actually became the prototype of the future Wyra.

The Pagani Huayra R Coupe was developed in close partnership with the German engineering firm HWA AG, owned by Hans-Werner Aufrecht, one of the founders of AMG.

Engineers from Affalterbach assisted Pagani in creating the engine and transmission, as well as in the general fine-tuning of the mid-engined car.

If all previous versions of Wyra had a 6.0 liter AMG V12 biturbo engine, then for the R version the company again chose an atmospheric engine (like the previous Probe).

The V12-R engine is not only devoid of turbochargers, but also seriously modified. For example, instead of distributed injection, direct injection is installed (pressure reaches 200 bar), and the cut-off is shifted to 9000 rpm!

At the same time, in terms of power, this aspirated engine surpasses all biturbo versions on previous Pagani models: 850 hp. at 8250 rpm! However, the thrust is expected to be less: 750 Nm versus 1000-1100 Nm for the versions with biturbocharging.

Rear-wheel drive, but the gearbox is also different: instead of a seven-speed Xtrac sequential, a six-speed sequential transmission with a racing sintered clutch is installed and, as stated, significantly reduced shift times.

The double wishbones with electronically controlled shock absorbers have been reconfigured, and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes with six-piston mechanisms are installed «in a circle».

Finally, the car’s supporting structure has been seriously revised. Like racing cars, the Huayra R’s engine and transmission are incorporated into the power structure.

The engine is mated to a composite monocoque, and a chrome-molybdenum rear subframe is attached to the crankcase.

Of course, a new aerodynamic empennage with separate air channels for cooling various radiators and components has been developed for the Erka.

The new design made it possible to lighten the machine: dry weight — 1050 kg. Of these, 198 kg were for the engine, and 80 kg for the gearbox.

Alas, the company did not provide dynamic characteristics. But the announced price: 2.6 million euros excluding taxes.

Only 30 Pagani Huayra R track hypercars will be released, after which the premiere of the third generation hypercar should be expected.

The track coupe will serve as a «laboratory» for the development of future models.

The production of Huyara civil coupes and roadsters has officially ended, but now the Italian brand has added an option to the family that cannot be driven on normal roads.

It was announced last fall, and today it was completely declassified and the price has already been announced.

According to the founder and CEO of Pagani Automobili, he doesn’t like modern racing cars too much.

They say that they are almost entirely developed in a wind tunnel, and therefore their creators are practically deprived of creative freedom.

Horatio Pagani himself was more fond of the prototypes of the sixties and seventies, which were «very fast, certainly dangerous, but also beautiful.»

Among them, the engineer singles out the Ferrari P4, Ford GT40 and especially the Le Mans Porsche 917.

At the end of the decade before last, Pagani had already created his own track model, inspired by similar cars — the Zonda R.

Now the time has come for its direct successor, the Huayra R. The novelty does not fit into any FIA regulations, apart from safety requirements for GT cars: integrated frame, fire extinguishing system, six-point belts.

Otherwise, this is just the quintessence of what a niche manufacturer is capable of in terms of design and technology.

The Pagani Huayra R monocoque is made of proprietary composite materials Carbo-Titanium HP62 G2 and Carbo-Triax HP62, independent suspensions are made of forged aluminum, the body is traditionally made of carbon fiber.

The «dry» weight of the car is only 1050 kg, that is, the hypercar weighs 168 kg less than the lightest road coupe Huayra BC.

At 320 km / h, the Huayra R’s aerodynamic body kit with its massive diffuser and wing generates a ton of downforce that is distributed between the front and rear of the car in a ratio of 46:54 — this balance is maintained throughout the entire speed range.

Up front, the track hypercar has a pair of new side air intakes that not only distribute airflow, but also help cool the brakes.

By the way, the novelty rides on 19-inch forged aluminum wheels with ventilated carbon-ceramic Brembo movements and Pirelli P Zero rubber. An aerodynamic fin is integrated into the roof air intake.

The racing engine Pagani Automobili developed from scratch especially for this model in collaboration with the famous German company HWA AG.

This is a six-liter V12, and not turbocharged, as on civilian «Wires», but atmospheric. It can spin up to 9000 rpm and produces 850 hp. and 750 Nm, the maximum torque is available in the range from 5500 to 8300 rpm.

Thus, the Huayra R takes over the title of the most powerful Pagani, which until recently was shared by the Huayra Imola coupe and the Huayra Tricolore roadster.

Hans-Werner Aufrecht’s company also helped Pagani with a six-speed sequential gearbox with a racing clutch.

The entire power unit is connected to a monocoque and a rear subframe, compared to the road Huayra, the flexural stiffness increased by 51%, torsional rigidity by 16%.

The engine, designated the V12-R, is intended to sound like the engines of an eighties formula car — and be as easy to maintain as it needs every 10,000 kilometers.

A new Inconel exhaust system is responsible for the «soundtrack». Its pipes are three times thinner than usual on road cars and have a ceramic coating.

Supplied with mufflers, which can be installed for travel on tracks where there are restrictions on the noise level.

We do not yet have images of the interior, but the manufacturer said that almost all the controls will be on the quick-release steering wheel, and the mode switches for the power plant, suspension and other systems will be on the center console.

Also promised is a fully customizable dashboard display, telemetry system, and a specially designed AP Racing adjustable pedal assembly.

Pagani plans to build only 30 copies of the Huayra R, but this is already twice the circulation of the Zonda R.

Prices start at 2.6 million euros (229 million rubles) excluding taxes — 300 thousand euros more than the minimum amount requested for the Huayra BC. At the same time, the aforementioned Imola and Tricolore cost much more — 5 and 5.5 million euros (440 and 484 million rubles), respectively.
