Automobili Pininfarina reminded the world of a long-promised electric crossover project and showed the Pura Vision concept, heralding the long-awaited expansion of the Italian luxury brand’s model line.
Automobili Pininfarina is, recall, an automotive company that spun off from the Italian design studio of the same name, which has been owned by the Indian company Mahindra & Mahindra since 2015.
Automobili Pininfarina is headquartered in Munich (Germany), but the design studio is still based in Cambiano (Italy, Piedmont region).
The debut model of Pininfarina as an automaker was the Battista electric supercar, first shown in 2019.
Battista was created on the platform of the Croatian company Rimac and is, in fact, a derivative of the supercar Rimac Nevera.
After the debut of the Battista, Automobili Pininfarina began to make long-term plans to expand the model range and, together with Bosch and Benteler, began developing its own electric vehicle platform.
In 2020, the British magazine Autocar spoke about the upcoming Pininfarina electric crossover: then it was reported that the power of its power plant would be about 1000 hp, acceleration to “hundreds” would take about 3 s, the estimated maximum speed was 300 km / h, the reserve travel on a single charge — about 550 km.
At the same time, a teaser of the Pura Vision concept under the covers was published, but due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and the company’s financial difficulties, its premiere took place only today.
The Pininfarina Pura Vision is positioned as an e-LUV (electric Luxury Utility Vehicle), it has a rather sculptural appearance, which is surprisingly combined with a developed aerodynamic tail.
The overall length of the concept is 5215 mm, the width at the level of mirror cameras is 2147 mm, and the height is 1641 mm.
The crossover has no central pillars, which emphasizes its spacious interior, designed for four.
Composite hinged doors and a glass roof dome are the main design feature of Pura Vision, and, as the experience of the Chinese brand HiPhi has shown, it is not so difficult to bring it to mass production — there would be a desire.
The interior, upholstered in wool and recycled polyester fabric, looks rather old-fashioned due to the thick bezels of the instrument and multimedia displays.
Loudspeaker speakers are built into the headrests of the chairs, as it were, hanging in the air. There are no physical buttons on the front panel — only touch ones.
The Pininfarina Pura Vision will be shown live at Car Week in Monterey (USA, California), which this year will be held from August 17 to 20, and there, according to a press release, a certain new production model will be presented, in which we will see the features Pura Vision.
If it is a crossover, then it will be able to compete with such interesting projects as the Drako Dragon and Aehra SUV.
