Sedan Polestar 5 2024.
The large Polestar 5 sedan has shed its camouflage. The already presented Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 electric SUVs are delayed on their way to the conveyor.
Back in May, it was announced that due to problems with the software, the start of mass production was delayed by several months and would not begin until the end of this year.
But the development of other models is on schedule, and now the company has shown a pre-production version of the flagship Polestar 5 sedan.
Work on this model has been going on for a long time: the Polestar Precept concept car debuted in early 2020, and the first image of the production car was published in the fall of 2021.
And now the company’s managers have not been too consistent: in branded photographs, the Polestar 5 is shown without camouflage, but for demonstration races at the Festival of Speed in Goodwood, which opened today, a prototype in colorful pasting was used.
The Polestar 5 is a four-door, over five meters long, that has a separate trunk with a large pop-up lid, but no rear window.
It is based on the same SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) modular platform of the Geely holding that the “third” and “fourth” models have, and the body is made mainly of aluminum.
There are no branded images of the interior yet, the only picture of the interior of the prototype suggests that it is still assembled using bypass technologies.
Specifications are only announced for the twin-engine top version. An electric motor with a capacity of 612 hp is installed on the rear axle, the front engine develops only 272 hp.
The total output of the power plant is 884 hp. and 900 Nm! The rear axle has a two-stage gearbox with two side clutches: they allow you to control the thrust vector or open at the same time to save energy.
The traction battery operates with a voltage of 800 volts and will allow you to travel more than 600 km on a single charge.
The Polestar 5 sedan is due to go into production in 2024, but the dates for a full-fledged debut have not yet been announced.
Overall, the Polestar 5 will run on an 800-volt architecture and feature a massive 103 kilowatt-hour battery.
There will be more affordable single-engine versions as well as smaller battery options.
To a certain extent, the production version of the Polestar 5 will be a direct competitor to the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S, Audi E-Tron GT and the like, offering a combination of style and comfort with impressive performance.
It’s safe to assume that it will be positioned as the brand’s top offering.
