The Aston Martin company has long intrigued the entire automotive community, giving out portions of information about its new DBX crossover, but now the model has been completely declassified.

The first SUV in the range of the premium brand from Foggy Albion was unveiled at a special event in Beijing on November 20. Despite its debut in the Middle Kingdom, the novelty will first appear on the market in Europe and the United States.

The price of the Aston Martin DBX became known even before the premiere: in Germany, the car will cost 193,500 euros, in the United States — 189,900 dollars. The shipment of machines to customers will begin in the second quarter of 2020.

Specifications

The new DBX is based on its own platform, but Daimler provided the engine and transmission for the model. The V8 4.0 biturbo engine is equipped with a cylinder deactivation system and delivers 550 hp at its peak. with a maximum torque of 700 Nm.

This thrust is processed by a 9-speed «automatic» and an electronically controlled transfer case, which distributes the force between the two axles. Up to 47% of the torque can be directed to the front wheels, connected by means of a clutch, while the rear wheels, if necessary, receive all 100% of the traction.

Thanks to the engine placed within the wheelbase, the Aston Martin DBX crossover has an almost ideal weight distribution — 54/46 (front / rear). At the same time, the curb weight of the car, despite the abundance of aluminum parts, is an impressive 2245 kg, which somewhat worsens the dynamic characteristics.

The DBX sprints to 100 km / h in an acceptable, but by no means outstanding 4.5 seconds, and the top speed is set at around 291 km / h. The same agility, for example, is demonstrated by the Bentley Bentayga V8 with a 550-horsepower engine — 4.5 seconds and 290 km / h.

Well, the Lamborghini Urus here, of course, gives odds to both models, spurring up to «hundreds» in 3.6 seconds and developing 305 km / h. True, the engine of the Italian high-speed express train is more efficient — V8 4.0 with 650 hp. and 850 Nm.

With the capabilities of DBX on the track sorted out, what about off-road qualities? Adaptive air suspension with three-chamber cylinders will change the ground clearance of the new Aston Martin crossover in the range of 95 mm (from 140 to 235 mm). In the highest position of the body, the approach angle is 25.7 degrees, the departure angle is 27.1 degrees, and the longitudinal travel angle is 18.8 degrees.

With this geometry, the car is able to overcome rather difficult road sections. It will not save even in front of water obstacles up to 500 mm deep. If anything comes to the aid of the electronic rear differential lock.

The braking system of the model consists of six-piston front mechanisms with 410 mm discs and rear single-piston mechanisms with a floating caliper and 390 mm discs. The steering is equipped with an electromechanical amplifier, from lock to lock the steering wheel makes 2.6 turns.

Exterior design

The new Aston Martin DBX 2020 is a fairly large crossover with a body length of 5039 mm, a width of 1998 mm and a height of 1680 mm. Due to the large center distance (3060 mm), the wheels of the car are spaced close to the perimeter, so the overhangs are very short.

Stylistically, the novelty is similar to its brothers in the Aston Martin line — there is a swift silhouette, «clean» body panels without strongly protruding elements, a proprietary radiator grill.

The headlights are drop-shaped, and the rear optics are made in the form of a one-piece chandelier, stretching with a bend from side to side.

There are several original solutions in the appearance of the model. First, with an eye on the sports car, the DBX has retractable outer handles. Another point is the frameless design of the doors, and the glass seals are hidden inside for a more stylish look.

Of greatest interest is the trunk lid, since it is equipped with two spoilers at once and is devoid of wipers. The cleaning of the rear window, as conceived by the developers, should be carried out by «flowing» air streams from the roof.

The new Aston Martin DBX gets 22-inch wheels as standard in two designs. The size of the front light alloy wheels is 285/40 R22, the rear ones are 325/35 R22. They wear Pirelli P Zero rubber.

The interior of the British crossover boasts the highest quality of finishing materials, excellent ergonomics and the richest electronic and technical equipment. By default, the interior is finished with Caithness leather, available in five colors.

Basic equipment includes full LED optics, 12.3-inch digital instrument panel with unique graphics, multimedia center with 10.25-inch display, three-zone climate control, heated seats, all-round cameras, panoramic roof, ambient lighting with 64 shades, Harman acoustics with 14 speakers of 800 watts.

As an option, a variety of interior trim schemes are offered using various types of leather and decorative elements (made of wood, metal or carbon), a two-tone steering wheel upholstery, front luxury seats with 16 electrically adjustable and ventilation function.

The second row of seats of the new Aston Martin DBX is extremely hospitable to the riders, providing them not only with the necessary supply of free space, but also with excellent visibility, as the seats are slightly raised relative to the front seats.

Rear passengers rely on their own climate control panel and USB ports for charging gadgets, and if you wish, you can order special holders for tablets.

The luggage compartment of the DBX turned out to be quite voluminous. Its base capacity is 632 liters, plus there is an additional compartment for 62 liters underground.

To increase the loading area, simply fold down the backrests of the rear seats, which fold down separately (40:20:40 configuration). The tailgate is, of course, electrically operated.
