The American brand established production of the Challenger model back in 1970 (production was going with interruptions).

The model of the current generation appeared in 2008, and it was restyled in 2015.

According to the site Carsalesbase, at the end of 2021 dealers in the States sold 54,314 units of Dodge Challenger, which is 2.6% more than a year earlier.

This year, the muscle car has a minus: Americans bought 25,682 units in the first half of the year, down 14.8 percent from January to June of last year.

As it became known earlier, the 2023 model year will be the last for the current co-patented Charger sedan and Challenger coupe equipped with internal combustion engines.

Later, they will be replaced by models with electric power units.

However, the company decided to solemnly retire the gasoline-powered cars, so Dodge has promised to release seven farewell special versions of the Charger and Challenger, with a sixth announced.

The Dodge Challenger coupe is presented in a limited edition Black Ghost. The name means «Black Ghost» in translation from English, it is a reference to the participant of street races in Detroit in the seventies of the last century — Dodge Challenger RT.

The car is now listed on the National Historic Vehicle Register.

The Dodge Challenger Black Ghost variant is based on the SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody version.

It is equipped with a 6.2-liter V8 compressor engine, which was forced from 808 to 818 hp.

Black Ghost limited edition cars differ at the expense of a body of black color with white graphic elements on the back, and also at the expense of a vinyl sticker on the roof, which imitates «alligator skin» (Gator Skin).

By the way, the same «background» is used for the inscription with the name of the special version, which can be seen in the cabin.

The list of features also includes an alcantara steering wheel with a red SRT logo, 20-inch wheels, an indication of the Last Call series under the hood and the Challenger badge on the radiator grille.

The Challenger Black Ghost farewell version will be made in 300 copies.

The prices for the novelty have not been announced in the Dodge company yet: they will appear later, when the dealers start taking orders.
