Honda Civic Type R-GT 2024.
The Japanese introduced the racing Honda Civic Type R-GT for the Super GT championship.
Honda has prepared a racing Civic Type R for the Japanese Super GT Championship. This car was designed to meet the requirements of the GT500 class.
The two-door Honda Civic Type R-GT 2024 is built on the basis of a road hatchback, but differs from it in a wider body and an aerodynamic body kit with a massive rear wing.
The car is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo engine tuned by Honda Rcaing Corporation.
It is equipped with a Garrett 846519-15 turbocharger. Its return is in the region of 650 hp. (according to the rules of the Super GT championship).
The power unit works in tandem with a six-speed sequential gearbox, which transmits traction to the rear axle.
The gearbox is controlled from the steering wheel paddles.
The Japanese report that the new car can run on ETS Racing Fuels synthetic fuel.
In the coming days (namely, July 25 and 26, 2023), it will pass sea trials at the Japanese Okayama International Circuit.
This new addition will replace the outgoing NSX-GT in the GT500 series from the 2024 season.
The Honda Civic Type R-GT Concept is revealed as a 2024 Super GT race car that will compete in the GT500 series of the Japanese Super GT Championship. The model will make its racing debut in the 2024 season, effectively replacing the NSX-GT.
As production of the Honda/Acura NSX ended, the automaker needed another Super GT entrant.
Despite being a hot hatchback, the Civic Type R was the most appropriate choice as the sportiest model in Honda’s current lineup.
Interestingly, this is the first GT500 race car based on a production five-door hatchback model.
As expected, the Honda Civic Type R-GT bears little resemblance to the production model. The lighting fixtures are the only thing reminiscent of the Civic.
The racing car features massive aerodynamic components and is ready to take to the track.
The custom body kit includes a splitter and canards on the front bumper, wide fenders with integrated air vents, thick side skirts, a racing diffuser and a massive rear wing.
There’s also the removal of the tailgate, blacked out windows, new cutouts for the smaller front doors, and a very large exhaust port sticking out on the right side.
The Type R-GT sits on a set of high-gloss black center-lock wheels wrapped in racing slick tires.
Finally, a new livery with red and blue graphics on a white body completes the striking look.
Honda hasn’t announced specifications for the race car, which will feature a custom race chassis, rear-wheel drive layout and a carefully tuned GT500-compliant engine.
The Type R-GT is still under development at Honda Racing Co in Japan and is in preparation for competition in the 2024 season.
