Toyota Hilux GR Sport 2024 pickup: the most extreme version.
Toyota marketers have long been haunted by the laurels of the extreme Ford Ranger Raptor pickup truck, but the creation of a similar version of the Toyota Hilux model is proceeding slowly and with each new iteration the car has more and more new features.
The first attempt to make such a pickup truck was made five years ago in Australia, although the amount of modifications turned out to be quite modest.
The production version of the Hilux GR Sport debuted in Japan a year and a half ago, but at first it couldn’t boast of major modifications.
Gradually, such a pickup truck entered the markets of Europe, Thailand and South Africa, acquiring more and more new features.
And here is another version, this time prepared for Australia.
The main innovation of the Australian model Toyota Hilux GR Sport is a redesigned chassis, first tested on the local version of Rogue.
At the front, the track has been widened by 140 mm, new suspension arms and stiffer springs have appeared.
At the rear there is a reinforced axle with a track widened by 155 mm. New, more durable shock absorbers have appeared, and ground clearance has been increased.
In addition, the GR Sport version has rear disc brakes instead of the standard drum brakes.
The front is a standard four-piston unit with fixed calipers.
Under the hood is a forced version of the 2.8 turbodiesel, which first appeared last year in the South African version of the Hilux GR Sport.
A new turbocharger and injection system increased output from the standard 204 hp. and 500 Nm up to 224 hp. and 550 Nm.
The six-speed automatic transmission has been retuned for more aggressive driving: in particular, the torque converter lock-up is activated earlier than in a standard pickup truck.
The Toyota Hilux GR Sport is only offered with a double-row cab. External features of the new Australian version include enlarged wheel arch extensions, a new front bumper and a different radiator grille.
The pickup is equipped with 17-inch wheels, off-road tires, additional underbody protection, and additional towing eyes under the rear bumper.
The interior features metal pedals, red seat belts and other sporty decor.
In Australia, sales of “charged” pickups will begin in the spring. The price has not yet been determined, but you can focus on 80 thousand Australian dollars (56 thousand US dollars).
For example, in South Africa, the previous version of the Hilux GR Sport with a forced diesel engine but a standard suspension costs 51 thousand dollars.
However, such a Toyota is still very far from the Ford Ranger Raptor pickup truck, because it is offered with a V6 petrol twin-turbo engine with a capacity of 400 horsepower.
