VOLKSWAGEN has unveiled its fifth generation Caddy compact van, which will share its achievements for the first time with the successful Golf hatchback.
According to the manufacturer, the model has been redesigned from the ground up and thanks to the van using the same platform as the Golf, it was able to introduce new active safety technologies and driver assistance systems. And there are not many or few of them — 19.
The main ones are self-parking, lane keeping assist, road sign recognition, assistance when starting from a mountain, automatic braking after a collision, tire pressure monitoring, rear-view cameras and a driver’s readiness to drive monitor.
It will be the first Caddy to feature an electronic parking brake, as well as electric sliding doors, a power tailgate and keyless entry.
Passenger models will have a 1.4 m² panoramic sunroof above the first two rows of seats, LED headlights and taillights, and an option for 18-inch alloy wheels.

If the panoramic roof is not fitted, models with the rear seats will be equipped with a ceiling fan that helps distribute air from the front to the rear for increased comfort.
The panel vans will receive LED lighting, new cargo flooring, stronger anchorage points and a 230-volt outlet, and a folding passenger seat with hard padding that can be converted into a mobile table.
Models will include easy-to-remove rear seat rows to free up a full cargo hold. In addition to being removable, they can be folded and / or tilted to expand cargo space and create a flat cargo area.

From a utilitarian standpoint, the new Caddy has increased loading space with an additional 93mm in length — with a 73mm longer wheelbase and 62mm wider wheelbase, with an additional 11mm in the cargo box.
The roof height is 25mm lower, but not at the expense of the cargo height, which VW says has increased by 7mm.
Volkswagen has confirmed it will offer 2.0-liter diesel engines ranging from 75 to 122 horsepower and a 1.5-liter petrol unit with 116 horsepower.
For the European market, diesels will include a dual-dose AdBlue dual purification system that claims to “significantly reduce” NOx emissions.
The usual choice of six-speed manual and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission will be available, as well as the option of all-wheel drive depending on variant and market.
At this stage, the prices and date of sale of the Volkswagen Caddy are unknown.
