Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer: the new electric station wagon will be released in 2024.
The ID.7 electric liftback will have a station wagon version.
So far, the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer has been spotted in the form of a pre-production prototype in camouflage and a couple of branded shots from the brand.
However, it is already clear that only the body differs from the founder of the Tourer family. A new electric station wagon will be released in 2024.
The Germans have a tradition of assigning the Variant prefix to a car with a universal body.
But, apparently, everything old is replaced by everything new: Volkswagen called the new station wagon Tourer — and this is the first time the company has used such a prefix.
The premiere of the Volkswagen ID.7 electric liftback took place in April 2023.
The new versatile ID.7 Tourer will share the MEB platform with it, but dimensions have not yet been revealed.
The length of the liftback is 4961 mm, width — 1862 mm, height — 1538 mm, wheelbase — 2966 mm.
The Tourer has a very streamlined body: while the original liftback has a drag coefficient of 0.23, the station wagon has a drag coefficient of only one hundredth higher — 0.24.
The luggage compartment volume of the station wagon will be 545 liters — 13 liters more than that of the liftback. But if you fold the backs of the rear seats, the capacity increases to 1714 liters (for the liftback — 1586).
True, the new universal Volkswagen Passat with an internal combustion engine has a noticeably larger trunk: 690 liters under the curtain and 1920 liters with the rear row folded.
The Volkswagen Passat remains only as a station wagon. This is precisely what is designated by the prefix Variant. Dimensions: length — 4917 mm, distance between axles — 2841 mm, cargo compartment volume — 690/1920 liters, Cd coefficient — 0.25.
There is no information about the station wagon’s technology yet. Probably, the new 2024 Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer will be equipped with the same power plant as the liftback: one electric motor with a capacity of 286 hp. s., installed on the rear axle, and a battery with a capacity of 77 kW/h, which provides a range of about 621 km in the WLTP cycle.
In China, the ID.7 is equipped with a 204-horsepower electric motor. Perhaps a version with all-wheel drive will appear later.
The new electric station wagon will definitely not be cheap, because even the ID.7 liftback in Germany costs at least 57 thousand euros.
