Audi e-tron Sportback 2020 is a cross-coupe with virtual mirrors and a power reserve of 500 km.
Looking at electric cars such as Audi’s e-tron, Tesla products, Porsche‘s Taikan, it’s nice to know that electric vehicles have not slipped into some niche class with cartoon representatives, like some Matiz. Before us are powerful trolleys that surpass gasoline models by a head, with the same level of comfort and unsurpassed design.

The next nail in the coffin of the internal combustion engine was the Audi e-tron Sportback 2020. In fact, this is the same e-throne that was presented earlier, simply “dressed” in a new body. Although there are a couple of fresh and interesting ideas on the filling. Which ones? Let’s see below.

Like a regular SUV, the cross-coupe is developed on the same electric platform MLB Evo. It has air suspension with two levers at the front and a multi-link at the rear. This allows the electronics to change ground clearance within 76 mm.

27 or 36 battery modules (depending on the configuration) are standardly registered on the bottom of the crossover. Charging can be carried out both from superchargers, where alternating current is running, and from a regular DC outlet.

True, it is stipulated that in the latter case, small power losses will be observed. At the same time, it will be possible to charge up to 80% in fast charging mode within half an hour from any power source.

The Sportback will receive two trim levels.

1. The first with the prefix «50 quattro». It includes two electric trains, one on the axis, with a return of up to 313 hp. at 540 Hm. The battery power is 71 kW * h, and the cruising range in moderate driving mode is 347 km. The maximum speed is limited to 190 km / h, and the e-throne can accelerate to a hundred in 6.8 seconds.

2. The charged version of the electric crossover with the 55 quattro index will offer 360 hp. at 561 Hm. It is noted that during a sharp acceleration, a pair of engines is able to show a peak power of 408 hp. at 664 Hm.

In this mode, acceleration to a hundred occurs in 5.7 seconds, but the maximum speed is still limited — 200 km / h. 36 modules give 95 kWh.
Thanks to this, the Sportback’s range was 446 km. By the way, the standard crossover had a maximum range of 400 km.

Not to say that the Sportback is capable of surprising with its silhouette, stamping or bumper architecture. Nothing new has happened in this regard. Before us is a standard cross-coupe with streamlined sleek shapes and a sloping roof with a panoramic view.

Nevertheless, it was necessary to show something new. Moreover, the electric market requires innovation. Frankly walk-through models are not welcome here. Two elements became «innovations» — matrix headlights and virtual rear-view mirrors. Will be available as standard.

The front optics will be mirrors. They are able to maximally concentrate beams of light in the desired direction and change position at a speed of up to 5000 positions per minute.

With their help, it will even be possible to design animation, exactly how it has not yet been voiced. Virtual mirrors (not a new solution, but still) are represented by cameras on the doors. Separate screens are provided for them in the cabin.

Additionally, in the future, a sports version of the cross-coupe will go on sale. It is understood that the «protective» body kit will be replaced with a sporty «evil» version, and «S» will be added to the name. Also, the E-throne will delight with new enamels.

The manufacturer has prepared up to 13 colors with very unusual shades. At the presentation, the crossover sported a standard metallic. The wheels got an interesting pattern. The alloy will be 19 and 22 inches in size.

The interior of the 2020 e-tron Sportback will delight you with five screens. Two are located on the sides of the torpedo and are represented by the same screens for the rear-view mirrors. Two more on the center console.

One is 12.1-inch multimedia, the second is like an on-board computer. And the fifth is represented by a virtual dashboard.
The rest of the filling is an advanced speaker system and sports contoured seats. Climate, cruise, security systems and the rest, of course, are included.

In terms of dimensions, the ceiling height has decreased by 2 cm, otherwise the comfort of passengers has not suffered. The only thing was the capacity of the luggage compartment was cut. And that is not significant — from 600 to 555 liters. In addition, under the hood there is an additional niche for the tool and the charging cable.


Considering the price of the cross-coupe, it is difficult to find competitors for it. An equally technologically advanced Tesla crossover with an equally streamlined body will cost 35% less.

In its price category, the e-throne is more likely to compete with the Jaguar I-Pace and Mercedes-Benz EQC.

Price and start date

The Sportbek saw the light of day at the LA Motor Show. After that, I immediately began to collect pre-orders. The first buyers will receive their trains by the spring of 2020.

The basic version will cost 5 million rubles. The charged version will go up by 700 thousand rubles. It is not completely clear whether the model will appear in Russia or not.
