Belgee X50: getting acquainted with the features of the Belarusian version of Geely Coolray.

The Belarusian joint venture Belgee, which is currently owned by the government of the Republic of Belarus and Chinese investment funds, has started the production of cars under its own Belgee brand.

The first-born of the family was the compact SUV X50, which on the official website of the company is called nothing more than “the first Belarusian SUV”.

However, the model itself is not a novelty at all, but a renamed version of the Geely Coolray SUV familiar to many, which Belgy has been releasing since two thousand and nineteen.

For rebranding, the Belarusian company had to acquire an extended license for the original model.

In the future, this will allow the plant to use localized components in the design of cars without the need for coordination with the Chinese side.

The presented Belgee X50 2024 differs from the “Belarusian” Geely Coolray except for the nameplates.

A new logo with the letters «BG» flaunts on the body and steering wheel of the car. Plus, it can be seen on the splash screen of the multimedia system.

The labeling of the glasses has also changed: instead of “Geely”, the name “Belgee” is now used. The brand name on wheel caps, keys and headlights is no longer indicated at all.

Under the hood, you can still see the name of the Chinese brand.

The release of Belgy X50 is already carried out using new localized components — from now on, cars are equipped with a Russian-made battery (instead of a Chinese battery).

Otherwise, the technique has remained the same, which means that the SUV is driven by a 1.5-liter «turbo engine», which produces 177 hp on cars in the Belarusian specification.

The motor works in conjunction with a seven-band robot with two clutches. The drive of the “first Belarusian SUV” is exclusively front-wheel drive.

You can buy the X50 in one of three trim levels — Standard, Comfort and Flagship.

The local Culray had the same versions. The prices for the car during the rebranding also did not change — from 62,815 to 73,950 Belarusian rubles (from 2.5 to 2.9 million Russian rubles).

Note that Belgy has been producing the pre-reform Coolray all this time, while in China the model has already gone through two planned restyling.

Therefore, the «fresh» X50 is also a variant of the old-style SUV.

In the Belarusian market, the model will completely replace the existing Culray. It has already appeared in car dealerships — existing Geely dealers have taken up sales of cars.

In the future, the rebranding will also affect the Geely Atlas Pro and Geely Emgrand 7 models.

The plans of the Belarusian enterprise and local authorities are to achieve 100% localization of these machines.

And the Belgee X50 will also appear in Russia, and it will be sold by a separate distributor, and not by the existing network of Geely showrooms.

Both models will be offered in parallel for some time, and then the updated Coolrey will be brought to us from China.
