Citroen is preparing a new cheap model: exact dates and engine range are published.

Citroen seems to have abandoned development of low-cost cars in Europe in recent years, focusing on crossovers with hybrid units and electric cars.

However, in some years, a budget sedan will appear on the European market, which will become a kind of descendant of C-Elysee.

Citroen representatives said the car will debut in 2024.

The French company has not yet disclosed any details about its new product. In particular, do not know even its name.

But representatives of the brand confirmed that the future car will be budget.

Its occurrence is connected with the new strategy of concern Stellantis which declared ambitious plans on development of a lineup of inexpensive cars.

Initially Citroen was considering options to start production of such cars on the South American and Asian markets.

In particular, the company has already prepared a new C3 for Brazil and is developing similar models for India.

But now the French manufacturer has turned its attention to the European market, which is gradually losing access to cheap cars.

Despite the lack of information about the new Citroen sedan, it is already possible to guess what engine range it will get.

According to rumors, the French model will be equipped with a 1-liter «atmospheric» engine.

This information indirectly testifies that the new Citroen sedan will be a compact automobile.

Besides, more 1.6-liter 120 hp engine will be ready for sedan. Later the French model may get a 1.3-liter turbo engine.

According to preliminary information, the new sedan will be assembled in Brazil, where, probably, it will be imported to Europe. Also, perhaps, the production of the car will be launched in India.

The C-Elysee is Citroen’s latest budget sedan for the European market.

Now this model, like the majority of its peers is no longer produced because of skyrocketing demand for crossovers.

However, not so long ago, the Brazilian division of the company announced that a new budget sedan is currently under development, which will become a more modern successor to the Citroen C-Elysee.

This statement was made by Laurent Barria, Global Head of Marketing and Communications at Citroen.

He confirmed that the low-cost Citroen C3 crossover for Brazil will go on sale next year, followed by a new budget sedan.

Its appearance in 2024 will only be possible «if everything goes according to plan,» according to Barria.

Notably, the first rumors about Citroen’s low-cost sedan appeared back in 2017, but confirmation from officials has only now arrived.

There is almost no information about the new model. Direct competitors to the new C-Elysee sedan, according to foreign media, will be the Honda City, Chevrolet Onix Plus, Hyundai HB20S and other similar models.

To be clearer, the Hyundai HB20S, is almost a complete counterpart to the Solaris, but for the Brazilian market.

Most likely, the manufacturer will not develop a completely new platform for the sedan, but will use the CMP architecture, on which the inexpensive C3 crossover is already based.

Thus, the new engine range can also include engines from the C3. In addition, the 1.0-liter 75-horsepower FireFly and 1.6-liter 120-horsepower EC5 petrol engines are possible.

Later the 1.3-liter turbocharged engine can be introduced for more expensive versions of the car.
