Honda WR-V 2024.
From India to Japan: another budget crossover, the Honda WR-V, has been unveiled.
In the Land of the Rising Sun they will sell a SUV, which in its production homeland has a different name. The model will be offered aspirated without any hybrid add-ons.
Honda held a presentation in Japan of a new inexpensive SUV.
On the home market, the model will appear under the WR-V symbol, but this is not at all the crossover that has been present in the countries of Southeast Asia since last year: a different name was assigned to the five-door Honda Elevate, which debuted in India in the summer of 2023.
The latest model is now produced exclusively by Honda’s Indian plant, and from there the cars will be supplied to the brand’s homeland.
The crossover is based on a platform that Honda designated as the Global Small Car: for example, the Vezel SUV (global name HR-V) and the City family (sedan and hatchback) are made on the same “trolley”.
However, in the case of Elevate/WR-V, we are most likely talking about the simplest version. Be that as it may, there are McPherson struts in the front and semi-independent suspension in the rear.
Externally, the Honda WR-V, intended for Japan, is no different from the Honda Elevate, not counting the nameplates.
At the same time, for some reason the Japanese SUV is slightly longer than the “Indian”: 4325 versus 4312 mm. The remaining dimensions are the same: width – 1790 mm, height – 1650 mm, wheelbase – 2650 mm.
Note that the local Honda Vezel crossover has similar dimensions, but in the brand’s lineup this model is one step higher – it is better equipped.
For the WR-V, the Japanese will still be able to order a design package, which includes the original radiator grille (with vertical wedges and a massive chrome frame) and other bumper trims.
In India, Elevate also has accessories, but they are different.
Inside, the Honda WR-V also repeated the Indian SUV, except that in Japan there was a different screen for the multimedia system.
Trunk volume – 458 liters. As in its production homeland, the Honda Sensing complex is announced for the SUV; it includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping systems, automatic headlight switching and road sign recognition.
True, the WR-V probably has this set by default, while in India only the top-end Elevate has it.
The engine was switched from the “Indian” — it is a 1.5 naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine without any hybrid add-ons (by the way, the older Vezel in Japan comes in the form of a hybrid).
The power of the Japanese version has not yet been announced. On the Honda Elevate, the engine produces 121 hp. and 145 Nm, it can be combined with a manual transmission or a CVT, but the WR-V seems to be offered only with a CVT. In any case, the drive is exclusively front-wheel drive.
In Japan, orders for the Honda WR-V will begin to be accepted in December, but crossovers will reach buyers only in the spring of next year.
It was announced that the price of a basic SUV will be approximately 2 million yen (about 1,188,000 rubles at the current exchange rate).
For comparison, a Honda Vezel in the home market will cost at least 2,399,100 yen (1,425,000 rubles).
