The appearance of the new Nissan Leaf on the automotive horizon can be considered one of the most anticipated debuts in recent years.

If the first generation decided to buy only city dwellers to move through the stone jungle (due to a small power reserve), then the second incarnation has an incomparably large power reserve.

On the news for 2021, the Leaf received a different exterior, interior and extended trim.

The look of the 2021 Leaf has changed significantly. The exterior has become more expressive and aggressive. The previous generation was known for its «slick» shapes and smooth lines.

Now the design of the electric car is made with an eye to young people and an application for a sports component.

The Leaf profile has become significantly brighter, in contrast to its predecessor, which was a «gray» duckling.

Dark C-pillars for lightness, powerful wheel arches and wide hips. In addition, the body can have a two-tone color, which looks fresh and original.

The rear of the hatchback sports a cute rear spoiler and elegant L-shaped brake lights. The bumper, equipped with a special «comb», as well as a curved tailgate with a massive molding under the license plate, make its contribution to aerodynamics (Cx — 0.28).

The new generation Leaf has ceased to be just a boring and spineless electric car, becoming really cute.

The hatchback has grown slightly in size relative to the previous generation. The car body has become 30 mm longer, 20 mm wider and 10 mm higher.

Another achievement of Nissan in relation to the Leaf model was a rather significant reduction in the weight of the car.

This made it possible to achieve a lower load on the electric motors and, as a result, a greater power reserve. The Leaf now weighs just 1,535 kilograms and has a maximum rear / front axle load of 450 kilograms.

The Leaf’s interior is also significantly different from the previous generation (see photo). The dashboard has been radically redesigned, bringing it to a classic look.

Gone is the tiny speedometer with a vertical bar, and the tidy itself has acquired two separate dials.

The small steering wheel has now been clipped from the bottom to make it easier to get into the driver’s seat, and the center console of the Nissan Leaf has been split into several blocks, which has a positive effect on ergonomics.

This model has a new body that has increased in size. The main increase came from the salon. There is more free space, and it is more comfortable to sit in the driver’s seat.

An additional merit is the seats with improved profile and shape memory filling. Upholstered chairs adjust to a comfortable mood, but a little lateral support will keep you going when cornering.

If we talk about the technology of the novelty, then the Nissan Leaf 2021 is able to surprise. The car is equipped with a host of modern systems, such as an automatic valet parking that allows you to park the hatchback even in small spaces, or the unique e-pedal system.

The electronic accelerator pedal accelerates the Nissan Leaf when pressed, but if the driver stops pressing it, it commands the car to slow down.

Driving the Nissan Leaf is now more than safe, the brake pedal is used only for emergency stops, and it is much easier to start uphill.

The 2021 car is equipped with a multimedia complex with a 7-inch touch screen. The system supports AppleCarPlay software, is able to interact with a smartphone, and also has navigation maps.

Nissan executives claim the Nissan Leaf is unparalleled in safety. Active and passive systems, airbags, belts with pretensioners — all these programs are designed to monitor the safety of the pilot and passengers.

Besides the usual ABS or ESP, the Nissan Leaf has some surprises. The innovative Pro Pilot Assistant technology provides constant monitoring of the traffic situation, control over the lane of traffic, and assistance to the driver.

This mode allows you to drive almost autonomously in urban traffic jams, independently accelerating and decelerating. And the electronic E-pedal implies «one-pedal» control only by pressing the gas.

When the pedal is released, the car decelerates by itself, simultaneously using the energy recovery mode. According to Nissan engineers, the driver of the Nissan Leaf model will not have to use the brake 90% of the time.

The Nissan Leaf ditched the combustion engine entirely, opting for electric motors. And the ABS system with a mass of electronic assistants makes driving the car as safe as possible.

The electric Nissan Leaf 2022 is equipped with electric motors capable of delivering 150 horsepower at 320 Nm of torque when fully charged.

These characteristics correspond to a 2-liter turbocharged internal combustion engine.

The new generation of the Nissan Leaf electric car has received increased capacity lithium-ion batteries.
Their volume is 40 kW, which is one and a half times more than that of its predecessor (30 kWh).

The power reserve with a full battery charge is 378 km according to the NEDC cycle, which corresponds to 240 kilometers in real conditions.

Also, Japanese engineers promise the imminent appearance of a modification with increased batteries for 60 kWh with which the Nissan Leaf can travel 400 km.

Nissan has announced the preliminary market price of the model. The price of the 2021 Nissan Leaf in the basic configuration will be at least $ 30,000.
