Volkswagen R published a video about the creation of the Golf R 20 Years Edition: this version is the most powerful in the history of the hatchback.

Earlier there was the larger VR6, but the most powerful engine is the fourth generation four-cylinder EA888.
This 2.0-liter turbocharged unit makes 329 horsepower in the Volkswagen Golf R 20 Years Edition 2022.

Volkswagen is now mainly developing electric cars, but engineers were given permission to work on the hatchback to give it all-wheel drive and add 13 hp.
Changes to the intake and exhaust system allowed for more power from the powertrain.
The throttle valve is now always open and no air accumulates in front of it.
This means that the car should accelerate almost instantly. Other modifications to the turbocharger include changing the bypass valve so that the choke responds even faster.
Volkswagen R will publish a second part of the video in the future to give all the details about the most powerful Golf ever.
The 20 Years Edition will go on sale later this year for 59,995 euros (3,692,692 rubles).
The production of this edition will last only 1 year. In fact, this model is the most powerful Golf in history, but even stronger variants were created before it.
In 2007, at one of the German exhibitions GTI W12-650 was shown. Under its hood was a 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 engine from Bentley.
This concept was based on the fifth generation of the hatchback and developed an impressive 641 hp. Acceleration to the first «hundred» was carried out in 3.7 seconds.
After that, we were shown a few more concept cars and some were even noticed in the form of test prototypes, but they never went into production.
