The concept ID. Aero, which has lost its door handles, will go into production next year.
One of the features is the absence of traditional door handles. According to preliminary information, the commercial version of the car will have an index ID.7.
The new model in the electric ID.4 family is a four-door fastback that will be produced in China for the Chinese market starting in 2023.
But in the same year, Volkswagen will announce a version adapted to the American and European car markets.
Such electric cars will be produced at a plant in Emden, Germany. The automaker itself describes the Volkswagen ID. Aero as a premium mid-size sedan for high-income Chinese families.
The Aero translates the existing ID design language into a coupe-style sedan with a long wheelbase that promises plenty of interior space.
Distinctive features on the front end include slim LED matrix headlights and a light bar that runs the full width, while the rear end also gets a full-width light treatment, giving the Aero a similarity to the Audi Sportback.
Complementing the image of the luxury battery sedan are 22-inch wheels with an original design. But the interior of the novelty is still a secret.
The Aero’s aerodynamic drag coefficient is 0.23. The sedan is built on the same MEB architecture as the other electric cars in the lineup.
The novelty is equipped with a 77 kWh battery pack, and while VW doesn’t disclose much information about the engines, we can assume that they will already be available in its sister EVs.
No performance data is available, but Volkswagen emphasizes the WLTP range of the EV to 620 km.
This figure is higher than other electric cars in the ID family, which will be able to travel about 483 km on a single charge.
In terms of size, the ID. Aero exceeds not only the European, but also Chinese Passat: its length is 4975 mm, width is 1897 mm, height is 1528 mm.
